Social Security Applauds Passage of Legislation Providing Historic Tax Relief for Seniors
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: July 7, 2025
The Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.
The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.
“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”
The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.
Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

Wow. The details are certainly lacking.

This article is such misleading fluff. The legislation is not specific to Social Security. It is simply and increased deduction against taxable income for people age 65 and older.
If the government feels a need to promote this on the social security website, then it should provide better details, instead of this rah rah fluff.

Worthless rhetoric! Give me the facts.

If a recipient is working and on social security. They should also be eligible for any benefits that recipients at full retirement age receive. When you are in a position to take early retirement, you have to take a 30% cut in your benefit. I feel that you shouldn’t have to be penalized any further than that. Wages should not be a factor just because you are under full retirement age. I still am paying into the system and I am receiving money I paid into my whole life with a 30% deduction. If I make too much money 23000.00 a year. I will lose one or more checks. Unfair. I work. I’m not asking for charity. This needs to change! Just a way to keep someone down

Please stop the propaganda messages. There was absolutely no change to Social Security tax laws.
A better article would be…
“Congress Fails again to pass any legislation protecting the future of Social Security”

Totally useless and totally misleading. It’s a shame that the Trump administration lies to our faces.

To all that are complaining about this deduction, I say to you ” what did Biden do?” NOTHING!, but push Americans into all this DEI and protect illegal aliens over the safety of the citizens. Biden’s signature pen was used by everyone to advace their agenda. The only person that didn’t use it was Biden.

Your comments are all wrong. Take a break from the cult. White people are not the superior race. This administration is nothing but liars, bigots and greedy. All for the billionaires.

No details provided on tax relief making it useless. Need to know who is eligible and how it wld be calculated on total income.

First of all, SS should have been done away with decades ago and if you want to FORCE people to save for retirement, fund their own account.
This entire thought around tax breaks just means whatever entitlement one group gets, the other group pays for it. Flat tax of 10-15% and be done with it for everyone.
This article tells me nothing except the reason why the government is so inefficient is this incompetent. Do I get $1K, $2K or $3K back; plain English would be best. I am so sick and tired of this nonsense it is no wonder we are where we are today
