Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

Misleading propaganda designed to please the Boss-man Trump rather than actually inform social security beneficiaries and all at government expense. Do you have no shame?

Well, I will leave a positive comment. Yippee! , and it’s a GOOD thing that happened. Maybe not all people agree with what this administration is doing, including me, but give credit when something beneficial happens. this will help many AMERICANS.

I find the email from SSA to be very misleading as it states in part:

“The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.”

    It also states the following:

“The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. Additionally, it provides an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they have earned.”

All I’m reading about is the “Senior Deduction” of either $4,000 or $6,000 if over the age of 65.

    So, what are the facts??
It’s appalling that a government agency like the SSA is issuing a very misleading statement, which seems very much like fake news.

This letter from SSA leadership is a clear violation of the Hatch Act, the law, prohibiting federal employees from engaging in partisan political activities. Regardless of one’s political affiliation or demographic, this action is against the law and there should be legal consequences for the head of SSA for sending this letter.

This is the most disgraceful thing SSA AND TRUMP administration could do! As soon as we read the text we received, we knew it wasn’t true! Anyone on SSI are not MILLIONAIRES! THEY’RE THE ONLY ONES WHO GET TAX BREAKS!

As a republican I am angered at this “official” letter saying 90% of seniors will benefit. What benefit? I have a sinking feeling the administrator of SS is a used car salesman.

What are the details of this new tax law?

    * Will my SS benefits not be taxed “at all”? Or does it depend on the amount of my benefit?

    * Does the law still take into consideration my total income? I still have earnings from part time work and I still have 401K distributions. Does this impact the taxability of my SS benefits?

    * WHEN IS IT EFFECTIVE? I have money withheld from my SS benefits for taxes each month — when can I stop that withholding?

    Please respond!

Totally agree…..there is no information about the changes in the bill such as income tax or other changes to the standard deduction for over 65. Everyone who receives social security has already paid federal income tax on those earnings that are used to calculate the benefit. Why are we paying again? Additionally, the bill does nothing for those over $150,000 and totally phased out at $250,00 for married filing jointly.

All your employers funded 50% of your social security benefits, thus that 50% is taxable to you.

How about some SPECIFIC details and not just a regurgitation of talking points? And I’m a Trump supporter.
