Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

I’m in shock and disgusted at such a politicized email from SSA. And it has misinformation. Please do not do this again.

To find out the specifics concerning the new Social Security benefits for seniors, one may be able to find answers on the White House website, the Big Beautiful legislation, or President Trump’s website, Trump Social.

As soon as I got the email, I knew it was “fake news.” It was unprofessional and very Trumpy. If it’s not followed up with a letter to your home address from SSA, with details, it is fake as far as I’m concerned. They always follow-up with a letter.

Your letter is confusing and technically false.

We taxpayers don’t need marketing hype from the government agencies that serve us. Just the facts, please.

Social Security benefits are still taxed. To say otherwise is false. Shame on the SSA

It doesn’t eliminate taxes on SS for many recipients. There is a deduction of $6000 that ends in 2028. Effectively take the top tax bracket % you fall into and multiply that times $6000. So if your last/top $6000 of income falls into the 12% bracket it amounts to $720 ($60 per month) of annual savings in Federal taxes. I would love to see the math/info SS used when drafting this message…

My wife and I are people who work hard all our lives, sacrificed vacations, and paid enormous tax bills. So, we get NOTHING! we’re discriminated.

Where are the details? If you’re just referring to the $6000 personal exemption, that is NOT going to eliminate taxes for the huge majority of middle income seniors.

This notice from the agency praised the bill, but only some recipients will see savings. There is no tax relief for seniors under 65 years of age who are beneficiaries of social security. So, what is the tax relief for seniors between the ages of 62 and 64 who are beneficiaries of SS? In addition, not all seniors will qualify for the deduction.

This is definitely not clear and not accurate. It is hard to believe that this was put out by the Social Security department to the general public. It is clearly partisan and is intentionally misrepresenting the truth. I wondered at first if this was simply a scam email with fake information but can only conclude that it is done typically by a loyalist on purpose. How does this get sent to so many people without being corrected.
It says that it eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries AND provides an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 or older. Actually it only gives a deduction without eliminating federal income taxes on Social Security benefits.
And in the process it will deplete the Social Security fund which will then run out sooner just like this administration wants it to.
    I am disgusted.

I totally agree with you that this information is unclear and misleading (and I also am shocked that the SSA sent it out). But how do you deduce that the SS fund will be depleted faster? SS is funded from working people’s paychecks, and I don’t believe any of our FIT dollars go to the SS fund in the first place.
