Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

I seriously could not believe this right-wing propaganda BS statement was emailed to SS recipients from the SSA today! It is not only inaccurate and misleading (federal taxes on ss are NOT being eliminated – just a couple of TEMPORARY credits, BUT THIS BILL DOES NOTHING FOR THE POOREST SENIORS IN OUR NATION – THE MAJORITY OF SSA RECIPIENTS – BECAUSE THEY ALREADY DO NOT PAY ANY FEDERAL TAX BECAUSES THEY RELY SOLELY ON SS INCOME AND IT’S TOO LOW SO NO FILING IS REQUIRED. THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE REALLY STRUGGLING AND WHO NEED HELP. I AM ONE OF THOSE POOR SENIORS! More of the government making sure the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Feed the rich, starve the poor. How about making sure EVERYONE pays their fair share – substantially increase or eliminate the earnings cap to be taxed for SS!? Even if you had to raise the max payout, this single action would indeed stave off insolvency predicted in 2034. But no, they won’t do that because….that would affect the wealthiest Americans aka BIG CAMPAIGN DONORS. This email sent to SS recipients was wildly inappropriate and highly POLITICAL and FULL of MISINFORMATION!

Just FYI, most of you here may not get the tax deduction…. $6,000 tax deduction is for Americans 65 or older. So SSDi under 65 get nothing.

The provision does not entirely end taxes on Social Security, but it would zero out the Social Security tax burden for 88 percent of seniors. a tax deduction of $6,000 to seniors making up to $75,000 individually, or $150,000 on a joint return. There is no removal of taxes, just a deduction… a deduction for a older group of Social Security receivers. that will expire in 2029 and will shorten social security full funding 2 years.

The Social Security Board of Trustees projects that without changes, benefits could be cut by 23%. by 2033, His bill with all its tax breaks, cuts 2 years off that funding… so in 2031 we will get a cut because of this bill, shortly after we will have to pay tax again when this bill expires in 2029… cheering on this is not smart.

Please finish the article so that it’s clear who the remaining 10% are receiving SS Benefits that will not qualify for the tax relief.
