Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

Who are among the 90 percent exempt from paying Federal taxes on their Social Security; and how will this affect an individual’s state taxation on his/her Social Security benefits?

This statment from SSA is misleading. Not $1 of SSA tax reduction is included in this bill.
The ONLY thing in Trump’s BBB is an increase in the deduction of $6k/$12k (single or joint filer) IF your income is $75k/$150k.

If your income is above those amounts then your additional deduction is phased out.

There is NOTHING in this bill that eliminates tax on Social Security benerift.

I thought you’d like to hear the TRUTH.

It’s fine to blog about a perceived victory but please don’t push this content into my email account. A number of thoughtful people have misgivings about this bill and its consequences. If it is really so great, no need to crow about it. Also this doesn’t give me any real information, just propaganda. Please stop. Get big government out of my inbox!

Literally, what is this? A campaign ad disguised as a blog post and email spam? This is so far beyond the pale, even for this administration.

This post by the SSA is inappropriate — and mischaracterizes the legislation. The SSA’s job is to administer the law, not act as a shill for whichever president happens to be in power. Shame.

You are absolutely correct. This page twists the truth and misleads about taxes on Social Security benefits being eliminated.

Not one penny of tax on social Security has been eliminated or reduced.

This bill includes extra deduction if you are 65+. That is ALL that it does.

SSA needs to start telling the TRUTH.
