Two people walking up the stairs in a school settingThe Social Security Administration (SSA) is celebrating the passage of the One Big, Beautiful Bill, a landmark piece of legislation that delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.

The bill ensures that nearly 90% of Social Security beneficiaries will no longer pay federal income taxes on their benefits, providing meaningful and immediate relief to seniors who have spent a lifetime contributing to our nation’s economy.

“This is a historic step forward for America’s seniors,” said Social Security Commissioner Frank Bisignano. “For nearly 90 years, Social Security has been a cornerstone of economic security for older Americans. By significantly reducing the tax burden on benefits, this legislation reaffirms President Trump’s promise to protect Social Security and helps ensure that seniors can better enjoy the retirement they’ve earned.”

The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples. It does so by providing an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they earned.

Social Security remains committed to providing timely, accurate information to the public and will continue working closely with federal partners to ensure beneficiaries understand how this legislation may affect them.

Decrease or elimination of taxes is great, but I will have to start doing the RMD next year, and I think that’s very unfair, making us take out money we’ve carefully saved and ALREADY been taxed on. What if anything will be done to eliminate that??

This bill was a disappointment. It will remove medical services to millions of low and middle income families. This is not a beautiful bill!

Some details would have helped – this article was WAY too general to know if ANY savings will apply to me. Besides, reducing the tax on Social Security doesn’t help to keep Social Security funded – it just adds to the deficit.

Thank you president Trump and the Republicans who voted to pass this bill. This is going to help so many of us seniors that are having a difficult time keeping up with inflation.

It’s about time a president stood up for senior citizens, now lets get rid of all the other bogus taxes! Remember that’s why we broke away from England!

He lied to you, he gave you a temporary relieve until 2028 but everything else goes up. Also he has to do this to make it looks good while he gave the rich tons of money. Don’t be fooled!

That didn’t happen… you got a $6k deduction for those over 65 and expires in 2029 – those on disability social security get nothing unless they are over 65, but that is usually converted to regular social security by then.
