man smiling and looking at laptop Social Security is here with tools and information to help you secure today and tomorrow. Did you know that you can pay your Medicare premiums online? If your bank offers the option to pay your bills online, you can use their service to pay for your Medicare premiums bill from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

You, or your representative, must sign up for your bank’s online bill payment process and you can contact your bank directly for assistance. Social Security and CMS are not involved in establishing the online bill pay service with your bank. Before you contact your bank to set up the process, make sure you have the following information available:

  1. Amount of your Medicare premium bill
  2. Account number: Medicare claim number without dashes. You can find this number on the red, white, and blue Medicare card.
  3. Biller name: CMS Medicare Insurance
  4. Biller’s address:

Medicare Premium Collection Center
P.O. Box 790355
St. Louis, MO 63179-0355

You’ll need to tell the bank how much money to deduct from your account to pay for the Medicare premium. You’ll also need to update the amount with your bank whenever there is a change in the Medicare premium amount. This usually happens in January when CMS announces the new Medicare premium rates. You can find more information at Medicare.gov or CMS’s online bill pay webpage.

Remember, CMS does not charge a fee for processing the electronic payments, but in some situations, a bank may charge their customers a fee for using their online bill payment service. If you have any questions about bill pay, please contact your bank or financial institution directly. You can also visit CMS’s  online bill pay for more information on paying your Medicare premiums.

Credit card payements are Only processed by snail mail. SS could have the $ faster if I could process my credit card payment online. Please make that online service available in addition to bank withdrawals. Thx

I have been trying for over a year to get a refund, for double payment made to medicare. I had prepaid for medicare while I was still working. Once I retired medicare took the payment out of my SS check. Therefore medicare had been paid twice. I have called and gone to SS office. And still have heard nothing. Kindly contact me so we can resolve this matter.

WHY IS MY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER ON MY MEDICARE CARD? CAN I GET A CARD THAT DOES NOT HAVE MY SS # ON THE CARD?

    • Ray F.

Hello John, the good news is that a new Medicare card is coming, one that will no longer display a cardholder’s SSNs. Please contact: Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services at 1-800-633-4227 (TTY 1-877-486-2048) for additional information or other questions about this matter. Thanks!

This is NOT “ONLINE BILL PAYMENT FOR MEDICARE PREMIUMS.” “Online Bill Payment” would mean there was one website where a person enrolled in Medicare could view and pay their premiums. It’s not rocket science; any retailer with an online bill payment system could show SSA how to do it. As someone who uses computers in my law practice and to deal with my personal credit cards, I’m appalled at how utterly out of date the technology on the SSA and CMS sites is.

  5. Raymond L.

    Hello,

  6. Jumelys L.

Hello, my name is Jumelys L. Moreno-Bosman, and I am trying to set up and send my Medicare payments with the bank, but I’d rather have Medicare make automatic deductions from my account instead. Is it possible? Also, I don’t know how much I have to pay. Could someone enlighten me on that? I have to start payments on May 1, 2018 for the first time. Thank you, Jumelys
