man smiling and looking at laptop Social Security is here with tools and information to help you secure today and tomorrow. Did you know that you can pay your Medicare premiums online? If your bank offers the option to pay your bills online, you can use their service to pay for your Medicare premiums bill from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

You, or your representative, must sign up for your bank’s online bill payment process and you can contact your bank directly for assistance. Social Security and CMS are not involved in establishing the online bill pay service with your bank. Before you contact your bank to set up the process, make sure you have the following information available:

  1. Amount of your Medicare premium bill
  2. Account number: Medicare claim number without dashes. You can find this number on the red, white, and blue Medicare card.
  3. Biller name: CMS Medicare Insurance
  4. Biller’s address:

Medicare Premium Collection Center
P.O. Box 790355
St. Louis, MO 63179-0355

You’ll need to tell the bank how much money to deduct from your account to pay for the Medicare premium. You’ll also need to update the amount with your bank whenever there is a change in the Medicare premium amount. This usually happens in January when CMS announces the new Medicare premium rates. You can find more information at Medicare.gov or CMS’s online bill pay webpage.

Remember, CMS does not charge a fee for processing the electronic payments, but in some situations, a bank may charge their customers a fee for using their online bill payment service. If you have any questions about bill pay, please contact your bank or financial institution directly. You can also visit CMS’s  online bill pay for more information on paying your Medicare premiums.

I need to no how to stop part B,

    • A.C.

Hi, Lee. To terminate your enrollment, you will need to submit a signed request for termination or Form CMS-1763. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) requires, when possible, a personal interview be conducted with everyone who wishes to terminate entitlement. Therefore, we do not offer form CMS-1763 online. For an interview, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday or go to your local office. Generally, when calling our 800 number, you’ll have a shorter wait time if you call later in the day. We hope this helps.

I have been on Medicare since age 65, and have always paid the bill myself. My SS retirement benefits begin
12/10/2019 and I see that Medicare payments are automatically deducted from by benefit. Can I continue to pay my Medicare bill on my own, as I have in the past, or is it a requirement that my Medicare bill be paid from my SS retirement benefir check? Thanks.

    • A.C.

Hi, Donald. If you receive benefits, we will automatically deduct the Medicare Part B premium from your monthly payments. To learn more about the Medicare program, visit here. For additional specific questions, please call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for assistance. Generally, you will have a shorter wait if you call later in the day. You can also contact your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

I just rec’d my summary in the mail. It says that my Voluntary Federal tax withholding is 0.00. I believe I elected to have Federal Taxes withheld a couple of months ago. How can I change this?

    • A.C.

Hi, Sare. In order to have taxes withheld from your Social Security benefit, you must start by printing, completing and submitting an IRS Voluntary Withholding Request Form (Form W-4V). On this form, you can choose to have 7, 10, 12, or 22 percent of your monthly benefit withheld. The Form W-4V (to withhold federal taxes from your Social Security benefits) can be returned to your local Social Security office by mail or in person. See our Benefits Planner: Withholding Income Tax From Your Social Security Benefits web page for more information. We hope this helps.

    • A.C.

Hi, Marianne. Unfortunately, your question is a bit more complex than we can handle in this forum. For your security, we do not have access to information about your account in this venue. To get additional information on Medicare benefits, check here. You may also wish to contact your local Medicare SHIP (State Health Insurance Program Coordinator) to discuss your options. We hope this is resolved soon.

  8. Yvonne N.

My benefits are scheduled to arrive on December 25th. When will I get them this month?

    • A.C.

Hi, Yvonne. Thanks for your question. If your regular payment date falls on a Saturday, Sunday or federal holiday, we send your benefits the business day before your due date. For pay dates, you may find the schedule of Social Security benefit payments calendar useful. We hope this helps.
