Online Bill Payment for Medicare Premiums

Social Security is here with tools and information to help you secure today and tomorrow. Did you know that you can pay your Medicare premiums online? If your bank offers the option to pay your bills online, you can use their service to pay for your Medicare premiums bill from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
You, or your representative, must sign up for your bank’s online bill payment process and you can contact your bank directly for assistance. Social Security and CMS are not involved in establishing the online bill pay service with your bank. Before you contact your bank to set up the process, make sure you have the following information available:
- Amount of your Medicare premium bill
- Account number: Medicare claim number without dashes. You can find this number on the red, white, and blue Medicare card.
- Biller name: CMS Medicare Insurance
- Biller’s address:

You’ll need to tell the bank how much money to deduct from your account to pay for the Medicare premium. You’ll also need to update the amount with your bank whenever there is a change in the Medicare premium amount. This usually happens in January when CMS announces the new Medicare premium rates. You can find more information at Medicare.gov or CMS’s online bill pay webpage.
Remember, CMS does not charge a fee for processing the electronic payments, but in some situations, a bank may charge their customers a fee for using their online bill payment service. If you have any questions about bill pay, please contact your bank or financial institution directly. You can also visit CMS’s online bill pay for more information on paying your Medicare premiums.

If you’re receiving Social Security benefits (retirement, survivors, or disability), you can start or update your direct deposit information by using your personal my Social Security account. If receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or unable to conduct business online, you can start or update your direct deposit by contacting the bank, credit union, or savings and loan association or by calling Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).

This absolutely of no help. How can I get my payment on Monday, Dec. 3, 2018 when Sunday the banks are closed?

I believe Social Security and Medicare should be updated and accepted premium payment online or through phone calls. All credits cards, utilities, and other bills can be paid online or through the phone. Hardly anyone uses checks anymore and sometimes the bank bill pay is very slow.

Hi Barbara. Please contact your bank or financial institution first. They may be able to determine if your direct deposit failed. If you still need to report a late, missing or stolen Social Security payment, call us toll-free at 1-800-772-1213. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. or contact your local Social Security office.

I am having too many problems with Medicare and Social Security. I made the mistake of setting up “easypay.” I wanted to have my monthly payments taken out of my personal checking account. Instead and without my authorization to do so, I was set up to have my payments taken out every 2 months. Also, I never received any written notification stating that the so-called “easypay” had even been set up! Also, my so-called “Welcome to Medicare” physical exam has become a nightmare! The facility that my doctor uses for test results had their claim denied. Now I have to file a “payment reconsideration” form and supporting documents to hopefully have the facility’s bill paid which is in the sum of $1,324.00+. Otherwise, the facility is going to mess up my credit if I cannot afford to pay it! Medicare and Social Security are horrible in my opinion!

Hi Gwendolyn: Sorry to hear about the difficulties you are having with your Medicare. Social Security does not administer the Medicare program so you will need to contact them directly by calling 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) (TTY 1-877-486-2048).

I am 64 years old and planning retirement. How much money would I have to pay for medicare premiums every month?

I received a paper statement/bill from CMS for my Part B premiums (start enrollment Dec, 2018). It did not, however, include the IRMAA amount which I can calculate on the table I got separately. So, this bill is not the current Monthly amount and I reluctant to use it for my initial payment – advise please.
ALSO, that bill was for the first 3 months Dec, Jan, Feb which is more than I can pay at once – advise please
