No Need to Visit a Field Office: Replace Your SSA-1099 Benefit Statement Online

The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.
An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.
If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.
A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.
If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.
If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Why why why is this information still available when I apparently cannot access and print my own replacement 1099 form for 2018?? All attempts via myaccount failed to locate the tax form.

Hello,
I am the executrix of my dad’s estate. His name was Raymond E. Ceraso and he died on July 27, 2017. I have been trying to obtain a copy of his last social security benefit statement for 2017 as I am required to file his last tax return. I haven’t been able to secure a copy. It may have gotten lost in the shuffle when his house was cleaned out and sold. Can you let me know how I can obtain another one? I have reached out to social security but haven’t received an answer.

Hi, Monica. We are sorry to hear about your loss. To obtain a replacement SSA-1099, the executor will need to go into the local Social Security office with proof of death and proof of executorship. An SSA-1099 can also be given to someone receiving benefits on the deceased beneficiary’s record such as a spouse, parent, or child of the deceased. To set up your account, visit the my Social Security web page and select, “Sign In or Create an Account.” You will need to provide some personal information to verify your identity, choose a username and password and follow the rest of the steps to finish creating your account. Once you create your account, scroll down to the Benefits and Payments section and choose “get benefit verification letter” where you can instantly view, print, or save your official letter. Hi, Enrique. Thanks for your question. In order to have taxes withheld or to make changes with your withholding from your Social Security benefit, you must start by printing, completing and submitting an IRS Voluntary Withholding Request Form (Form W-4V). The Form W-4V (to withhold federal taxes from your Social Security benefits) can be returned to your local Social Security office by mail or in person. This is great as long as you’ve either led a simple, rather stable life! Otherwise, you are likely to be blocked from getting your own 1099 since you need the memory of an elephant to recall every street you’ve ever lived on, what company held the loan for a car a decade ago that you no longer have! As a disabled woman, I guess I now have to go in person to the office and waste a day for the 1099 I was never sent!

Hi Heather. The SSA-1099 is mailed to the last address in our records and is intended for the beneficiary or the Representative Payee of the beneficiary. If the SSA-1099 cannot be located, and you’re the approved Representative Payee for your parent, you will need to go into the local Social Security office.
