Reading Time: 2 MinutesLast Updated: November 3, 2023
We’re with you through life’s journey, putting you in control of your finances and future. Social Security has made requesting or replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.
An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.
If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.
A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.
If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.
If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Securing today and tomorrow isn’t always easy, but Social Security continues to improve our customer service with easy to use online features. Visit our website for more information.

Hello Anita, we are very sorry for your loss. We automatically mail out Social Security Benefit Statement (Form SSA-1099/1042S) in the mail each January. If you are his representative payee, we should be able to issue you a replacement Social Security Benefit Statement (Form SSA-1099/1042S). That said, because of privacy and security concerns, you will need to visit your local Social Security office and show proof of your relationship to obtain this replacement. Hope this helps.

If I’m on Social Security for a Disability, do I receive a tax form? or report SSI to the IRS?
K.O.
Hello Bonnie. You should automatically receive your Social Security Benefit Statement (Form SSA-1099/1042S) in the mail each January. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to the Internal Revenue Service on your tax return. The benefit statement is not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), as SSI payments are not taxable.
If you didn’t receive your Social Security Benefit Statement (Form SSA-1099/1042S) or misplaced it, you can get an instant replacement easily by using your secure my Social Security account. If you don’t already have an online account, you can create one in minutes. Go to the my Social Security page, and select “Sign In or Create an Account.” Once you are logged in, select the “Replacement Documents” tab to obtain your replacement 1099 or 1042S benefit statement. You can also use your personal my Social Security account to keep track of your earnings each year, manage your benefits, and more.
We hope this helps.

Need to change address

Hi there! You’re in luck! If you are receiving Social Security retirement, disability or have Medicare, you can create a my Social Security account to change your address online! Go to http://www.ssa.gov/myaccount/. If you are receiving SSI you must report the new address to your local Social Security office. To locate the nearest Social Security office in your area, go to http://go.usa.gov/bgfV. We hope this helps.

How do you have a 2018-1099 form mailed to your home?
Joel J.
I requested a change of address over the phone, but never received an SSA-1099. When I attempted to create a my social security account, my address wasn’t recognized apparently, because I was prevented from creating the account and was ultimately blocked

I have tried to change my forgotten password and ask for a copy of my 1099 for 2018. I got confused and now I’m blocked for 24 hours. My tax appointment with AARP is
March 18 so I need it asap. The part that was a problem for me was the code. I wasn’t sure where to use it and changed it twice. Is there a way to get assistance online?
