No Need to Visit a Field Office: Replace Your SSA-1099 Benefit Statement Online
Reading Time: 2 MinutesLast Updated: November 3, 2023
We’re with you through life’s journey, putting you in control of your finances and future. Social Security has made requesting or replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.
An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.
If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.
A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.
If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.
If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Securing today and tomorrow isn’t always easy, but Social Security continues to improve our customer service with easy to use online features. Visit our website for more information.

I have attempted to access my information on line; however, I believe SS has not corrected an old address and it continues to lock me out of your system. How frustrating for someone who pays major taxes to our government on an annual basis!!!!!!!!!!Someone please contact me. My primary residence address is 4061 Camberley Street, Franklin, Tn. 37064. My wife received her 1099 social security information for our tax return; I did not. 615.973.8757. Martin (Marty) Warren.

I have a Medicare advantage medical card. I m in permanent disability since 2016 and have spousal benefit with my disability social security benefit. I also need a1099 for 2018. I never received on for last year. I would feel better talking directly to someone in my local SS office, but it is impossible to get anyone on the phone to make an appointment
A.C.
Hi, Deborah. For a copy of SSA-1099 for 2018 and years prior to the last year and to schedule an appointment with your local office, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to speak to one of our representatives for assistance. Generally, you will have a shorter wait if you call later in the day. Or you can contact your local Social Security office. In most cases, you can handle your business by phone. You do not have to make an appointment to come in to our offices, but with an appointment, you will be helped before our walk-in customers. We hope this helps.

I need a replacement form and after filling out the sign up form, I was asked to answer questions about my debt. Then there were me to affirm a household debt, a car debt and some other debt questions. We have no debt. I got a statement that they could not confirm that and threw me off with a note I could try again after 24 hrs.. Something must still be shut down.

My mother cannot use a computer. We need a replacement SSA-1099-SM for 2018 for her taxes. I have power of attorney, but your web site says I may not set up an account on her behalf. What am I supposed to do to help her?
A.C.
Hi, Ron. You are correct. You can only create a personal my Social Security account using your own information and for your own exclusive use. You cannot create or use an account on behalf of another person, even if you have that person’s written permission. Please note that having a “Power of Attorney” does not give you legal authority to manage payments for someone receiving Social Security or SSI benefits. If your mother needs help managing her benefits, you may be interested in applying to become her representative payee. As a representative payee, you will have access to your mother’s records and the ability to update her account information. A face-to-face interview is required when applying to be someone’s representative payee. If your mother cannot be present, a statement from her doctor would be helpful. The statement should say that your mother is not able to -mentally and physically- manage her Social Security benefits and identify you as the person responsible to keep her finances in order. Please read our publication, A Guide For Representative Payees, for more information. If you have specific questions, or to make an appointment with the local Social Security office, please call 1-800-772-1213 Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and speak to one of our representatives. Generally, you’ll have a shorter wait time if you call later in the day. We hope this helps.
