man on laptop We’re with you through life’s journey, putting you in control of your finances and future. Social Security has made requesting or replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.

An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.

If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.

If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Securing today and tomorrow isn’t always easy, but Social Security continues to improve our customer service with easy to use online features. Visit our website for more information.

Mr. Borland, trying to acquire a replacement 1099 form for my deceased Uncle and the automated phone system is irritating and annoying because it does NOT work AND YOU CAN’T GET A PERSON ON THE PHONE. I have been trying to obtain a replacement 1099 form for over 2 hours. The irritating response on your phone system that “no agent is available to help you” is embarrassing and it appears you and your staff who developed this system are incompetent.
You cannot get a real person and you cannot navigate through your system if there is a little glitch. So who are you suppose to contact.,..no one answers the phone!!!! So do your job and fix the lack of communicable bodies that can answer people’s questions. Or maybe you should!

Why—do we have to beg Social Security for a 1099 form every year? I get a 1099 now as I receive $30 a month more than my Medicare premium and I have to pay income tax on the entire amount.
My wife is entitled to about one half my amount which only pays part of her Medicare premium, but that amount also has to be included for tax purposes. Without a 1099 record, we cannot figure our taxes correctly.
For some reason, Social Security is incapable of providing that infor as required by law. Every year I have to contact Chicago Payment Center and your 800 number, and finally have to visit the local office and convince some Service Representative to print out a record. Why?

Access to my account was denied after I set it up and entered the username and password today. I tried 3 different possible versions of my password and then I was locked out and I was unable to talk to a SSA rep to correct the problem.

The create an account on line service is currently down and I haven’t as of yet received my 1099 for 2018. Will it be coming? What do I have to do?

    • K.O.

Hi, Edward. The SSA-1099 is mailed by January 31 each year. If for any reason you do not receive your SSA-1099 in the mail by then, starting on February 1, 2019, you can request a replacement SSA-1099/1042S for Tax Year 2018 by using your personal my Social Security account. If you are referring to your husband’s 1099 and it doesn’t arrive soon, you can visit your local Social Security office to request a copy. Thanks.

I tried to open a My account and it won’t accept my information. I received my 1099 form and it was misplaced in my move and I just want to replace it so I can get my taxes done. I have not been blocked from the site so I can’t get my form, I need help

  9. Julia A.

I already have a reset code received by mail, but when trying to sign in to get a tax benefit form, it doesn’t recognize it or my husbands sign in information. Every time I try to use your system, it disallows me for another 24 hours even when I am using correct information. Too frustrating and time consuming. No help on weekends either.

    • V.V.

Hi Julia, sorry to hear you are having difficulties with your my Social Security account.
