No Need to Visit a Field Office: Replace Your SSA-1099 Benefit Statement Online

The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.
An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.
If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.
A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.
If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.
If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Hello April. Please call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will experience a shorter wait time, when you call later during the day or later in the week. Or contact your local Social Security office. Thanks!

This site doesn’t address what one needs to do to get a replacement SSA-1099 for an older year. My Mom needs one from 2012. How does she get one?

Hi Denise, thank you for the question. Your mother will need to request the SSA-1099 by calling us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Because of privacy and security concerns, you will not be able to conduct Social Security business on behalf of your mother unless you are her representative payee. Having a power of attorney, being an authorized representative, or having a joint bank account with your mother does not authorize you to access information on her Social Security record. If your mother does not have a representative payee and she is not capable of managing and directing her Social Security benefits, someone should consider applying to be her payee. If anyone sees this, I won’t be opening an online account with you. My SS number has accidentally been posted online twice (by vendors), and both times my bank accounts were taken over by thieves. That was such a hassle that I have become resistant to posting that information anywhere. So I’m now in the middle of a 55 minute phone wait… I hope!

I am having trouble getting my 1099 for 2017. I think the problem is the e-mail address you probably have for me when my husband died is lynn4-u@att.net. That was an old xp computer which microsoft stopped supporting and the computer died and could not be restored by the Geek Squad in Costa Mesa. My husband Leo B. Jungblut and I both worked the same business and Leo had the same thing I did on his computer. the xp had my personal e-address (above) and our work address which you only have listed as him and Lynn Wakefield (my pen and business name) is lynn@speakersnow.info. When I fill in your form to get my 1099 for my 2017 extended taxes I only get those 2 names instead of the one on my Social Security Card which is Lynn Peterson. My taxman is really concerned – I only have a couple weeks to finish my 2017 extended taxes and then I imagine I will get penalties and since our life insurance company went out of business when Leo passed and all kinds of other things happened I am trying to survive financially. Please advise. p.s. Lynn Wakefield is mis-spelled on your records, should be Wakefield. and my correct and only e-mail now is lynn@speakersnow.info. Appreciating your help

Hi Margaret. You might be referring to a benefit verification letter. You can get a benefit verification letter online instantly by using your personal my Social Security account. This letter is sometimes called a budget letter, a benefits letter, a proof of income letter or a proof of award letter. To set up your account, visit the my Social Security web page and select, “Sign In or Create an Account.” You will need to provide some personal information to verify your identity, choose a username and password and follow the rest of the steps to finish creating your account. Once you create your account, scroll down to the Benefits and Payments section and choose “get benefit verification letter” where you can instantly view, print, or save your official letter.

However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. If you do not qualify to apply online, then you can apply by mail or visit your local office with required documentation.
