Reading Time: 2 MinutesLast Updated: November 3, 2023
We’re with you through life’s journey, putting you in control of your finances and future. Social Security has made requesting or replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.
An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.
If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.
A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.
If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.
If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
Securing today and tomorrow isn’t always easy, but Social Security continues to improve our customer service with easy to use online features. Visit our website for more information.

I am curious as to what my 2018 social security disability payments will be. Does anyone know when the forecast earnings statements come out? I tried to access my own statement online, but it locked me out and said I was in putting info that did not mesh with their info to prove my identity . I put in my personal info and it said my statement of identity proof is not the same as theirs.I know I can wait till tomorrow and speak to an agent but today it is urgent to have a copy of my future disability pmt including the cola.I am getting benefits now so to lock me out makes no sense.
Thank you
Nancy

I MOVED MY MOTHER TO MEMORY CARE FROM ASSISTED LIVING HOW CAN I GET HER 1099 SHE CANNOT ANSWER QUESTIONS ON THE PHONE BUT I AM HER MEDICAL SERROGATE
R.F.
Hello, Cindy. You may wish to consider becoming your mother’s representative payee. This would allow you to obtain necessary proofs from Social Security on her behalf. Having power of attorney, being an authorized representative, or having a joint bank account with the beneficiary is not the same as being a representative payee. These arrangements do not give legal authority to negotiate and manage a beneficiary’s Social Security and/or SSI benefits. In order to be a payee, you must apply for and be appointed by Social Security. A face-to-face interview is required. To make an appointment with your local office or to discuss further, call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions web page for more information. Thanks.

Good morning, in order to get a copy of the SSA-1099 for my mother who passed away last year, I see that I need to go to the “local” SS Office with the proper documentation. Can I go to my local office, or do I need to travel to hers? And, is this the needed documentation: Letter of Testamentary, Death Certificate, my Drivers License? Thanks
