man on laptop We’re with you through life’s journey, putting you in control of your finances and future. Social Security has made requesting or replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.

An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.

If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.

If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Securing today and tomorrow isn’t always easy, but Social Security continues to improve our customer service with easy to use online features. Visit our website for more information.

  1. Elaine D.

    Hello,

My mother passed away on February 22, 2017. Her name is Arlene M. Feagans, her date of birth, is 10/21/1026, her SSN is *** – ** – ***. I have not received her 1099 form from the Social Security Office. I am trying to have her taxes done and the tax office needs her 1099. I have made several calls to the Social Security Office and have waited on line for over 40 minutes each time, only to be referred a local Social Security Office that transfers me BACK to the main office…
Can you please send me a replacement 1099 for her to my address so I can get her taxes done?
My address is Elaine Chapman, 14420 Coachway Drive, Centreville, VA 20120 Or, you can send it to the tax office, Bull Run Accounting & Tax Services, P.O. Box 1293, Haymarket, VA 20168. I have provided them with all of her other documents required, and they are waiting for her 1099 to complete her taxes.
    Thank you.

We’re sorry to hear about the loss of your mother Elaine.
In certain cases, we may disclose SSA-1099 information from the record of a deceased person, only to a survivor of the deceased and only if we are able to establish the relationship of the survivor to the deceased based on SSA records.
Your will have to submit a formal request to the local Social Security office. You will be asked to provide proper identification and supporting documents when requesting a replacement SSA-1099. We hope this information helps.
Just a reminder – We do not have access to personal information in this venue. Please be cautious about posting personal information on social media. Thanks.

    Didn’t get my check

  7. Norman J.

For citizens living outside the USA internet access is more important than for people living in the USA where mail is more reliable. Not allowing internet access for people with a foreign address is a failure to provide good service.

    • R.F.

We apologize for the inconvenience, Norman. You are correct! You need a U.S. address to register for a my Social Security account, but you do not need a U.S. address to access our website or to file online for benefits.
The “my Social Security” authentication system requires address verification as one of the essential criteria for issuing an account. People with APO/FPO/DPO addresses can create an account overseas, but our system does not support registration and account creation for users with a foreign address yet.
Please contact your local U.S. embassy or consulate for any assistance related to your Social Security benefits.
Also, our Office of International Operations home page provides more information to assist our customers living abroad. We appreciate your feedback and hope this information helps.
