man on laptop We’re with you through life’s journey, putting you in control of your finances and future. Social Security has made requesting or replacing your annual Benefit Statement even easier. The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.

An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.

If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is typically available for the previous tax year after February 1.

If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you should access your online account and go to “Replacements Documents” to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a personal my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.

If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Securing today and tomorrow isn’t always easy, but Social Security continues to improve our customer service with easy to use online features. Visit our website for more information.

I need to get a copy of my benefits letter for the years 2017 and 2018. I tried online, but it would be back that far. How do I get them. The guy who I hired to do my taxes retired and the guy who bought his company never did my taxes and didn’t send me back all the papers I sent him so the new firm needs it.

    • A.C.

Hi, Jessie. Thanks for your question. It sounds like you are referring to the SSA-1099, tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. For years prior to the last year, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to speak to one of our representatives for assistance. You can also contact your local Social Security office. To find your local office visit: http://ow.ly/qvMk30eoHua. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later in the day. We hope this helps.

I am the Representative Payee for my daughter, I need a replacement SSA 1099, but the online order option, does not have a format for representative Payee. The nearest field office is over 100 miles away. Is there a way to open an account for Rep Payee, or should I have my daughter order her own 1099?

    • A.C.

Hi, Linda. Your daughter can request a replacement SSA-1099/1042S for Tax Year 2019 by visiting her personal my Social Security account. She can also contact her local Social Security office. They can assist with a replacement 1099. We hope this helps.

I can’t remember what my password is and the clues provide any help at all. That’s why I want to create a new password for my “sign in”

My mother died 4/15/19. She had dementia and I was her power of attorney and executor. I could never create an account on the website due to the restrictions online preventing me from doing that, though I did create an account on Medicare.gov, which is not longer accessible due to her death (I assume). I did not receive her 1099 for 2019 Social Security income for tax filing. Contacting my local SSA office I was told it was probably not delivered since the postal service does not forward mail from SSA for a deceased person, though her mailing address was officially mine since she was in memory care. I was told I would have to go to my local office (Colorado Springs) with proof of my power of attorney, etc. to get the 1099. The last time I visited there to change her address I waiting 6 hours and gave up, finally getting in touch with the national office who changed it for me via telephone. Is there any other way to obtain her 1099 for 2019?
