No Cost-of-Living Adjustment for 2016

Social Security’s annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) is an increase in the benefit amount people receive each month. By law, the monthly Social Security and SSI federal benefit rate increases when there is a rise in the cost of living. The government measures changes in the cost of living through the Department of Labor’s Consumer Price Index (CPI-W).
The CPI has not risen since the last cost-of-living adjustment in 2015. As a result, your SSI benefit rate and, for most people, your Social Security benefit amount will stay the same in 2016.
This news isn’t necessarily bad. When inflation stays at the same rate, your cost of living also stays the same. Prices for goods and services, on average, haven’t increased enough to affect the COLA.
Other changes that would normally take effect based on changes in the national average wage index also won’t begin in January 2016. Since there is no COLA, the statute also prohibits a change in the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security tax, as well as the retirement earnings test exempt amounts. These amounts will remain unchanged in 2016. The new fact sheet provides more information on 2016 Social Security and SSI changes.

How can the federal govt have the nerve to raise SS benefits only $4.00 a month in 2017 the real problem is the people who are making these decisions are being way,way, OVERPAID by the taxpayers to start with,Wouldn’t everyone like to receive what the politicians get when they retire 175k a year,plus healthcare and many of them are already millionaires.Talk about SCREWING the eyes out of the American taxpayers when they retire.The U.S. govt is the BIGGEST organized crime syndicate in the country!!

Um excuse me but I happen to be one of those welfare recipients and there are NO benefits going up. I dont know where you got that idea from . I am a 55 yr old female who gets 194.00 a mo in food stamps, I am on expanded medicaid and in very poor health. I am also a veteran and on section 8 and Energy assistance when I can get it. I am just barely getting by and I do mean BARELY. My tv , cable and electric gets cut off every other month because I am lucky if I find 1 or 2 odd jobs a week to pay my bills and that is if I am well enough to get out of bed to even do something like maybe help someone clean their house or do laundry. ( Comcast is charging me over 100 a month for basic tv and internet with no extras and my electric is almost 200 a month in the winter. because I live in a mobile home with no insulation underneath and the floor is falling apart).If it werent for those govt benefits I would be back on the street starving and sleeping in a park on a picnic bench at night. And yes I have worked in my life and paid into ss but according to them I dont have enough credits to get ss at retirement age. I cant believe this crap about trump saying people on welfare have no incentive to work and that we just all sit around all day and do nothing. That is the biggest load of horses—- I have ever heard in my life. How dare you. Some of us are not physically able to get a full time job and my current health prevents me from doing so. I have thyroid problems , am constantly tired with hip pain etc. He is so deluded that it isnt even funny. It must be nice to be a f—– billionaire and not have to lift a finger to do anything or have to worry about how you are going to pay your bills, or wonder if you are going to be able to eat the next day or even have a roof over your head. The problem with him is, he has had it so good for so long that he doesnt even have a CLUE as to what it is like to live below poverty level like I do. Take away my Expanded Medicaid /Dental coverage (with my current health conditions and with my teeth falling out and it wont be long before I get some dread disease and die. Take away my food stamps and I will starve to death , take away my energy assistance and I am going to freeze to death this winter and take away my Section 8 Housing assistance and I will be back living on the street, sleeping in a park at night on a picnic bench. Make America Great again my ass. No he just wants to do us all in with this deluded ridiculous plan he has for america that he thinks is going to turn the US around. BS. He is going to ruin us all because He doesnt even have a clue to what he is doing. He just thinks he does. He does not need to be elected President.
You know I asked God to help me get Section 8 housing 10 yrs ago and he got it for me along with the other help I needed and by God if trump takes it away from me and puts me back on the street to starve and die by God this Veteran is going to raise some holy hell like you have never seen.
How one person can be so f—– cruel as to talk about taking away millions of poor people’s (with children) food and housing and doing away with welfare, medicaid/dental etc just to balance the budget of a greedy govt is beyond me.
