New Resource for Individuals Who Provide Care
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: November 3, 2023
During National Caregivers Month, we recognize and celebrate caregivers who provide comfort and care for people of all ages living with disabilities and illnesses.
We work closely with caregivers who serve as representative payees and oversee Social Security or Supplemental Security Income benefits for beneficiaries who are unable to manage their own benefits. To make it easier for these caregivers to do business with us, we created a Representative Payee Portal. The portal provides a convenient way for individual representative payees with a personal my Social Security account to manage direct deposit, wage reporting, and annual reporting for their beneficiaries.
You can learn more about becoming a representative payee and all the requirements by:
- Visiting our representative payee website.
- Watching our training videos on the duties of a representative payee.
- Reading publications from our representative payee library.

I have been taking care of my husband since 2008. I search for doctors for his ailments, make appointments for him, prepare home coked meals for his low salt low fat heart health diet, do housechores, and at the same manage our residential rental properties (46 units in 2008). After 11 years of working the job of 10 people, my health give in. I have high blood pressure lately since I have not been sleeping straight 3 hours at night as I have to wake up at least three times after 10 A.M. to assist him ( either prepare snack or help in toilet when he has gout attack). I never have any day off. Our income was increased by capital gains due to sale of one rental property in 2016. In 2017, my husband’s social security pension was reduced in half due to this increase in income. After 22 years of marriage not working in my profession as a Chemist with MBA, I am scared that I have no record of employment except being a property manager of our own residential rental properties which our accountant put in the income tax return. This was brought up by my husband’s Trust lawyer, the late Atty. Peter Ng in 2012. My husband did not allow me to work away from home. He said we have enough investment properties that can earn income for me and he enrolled me in his Spouse Benificiary Plan with the Department of Defense (he is a retired U.S. Navy-CPO , E7But because he has no long term insurance, I fear that the rental income from our rental properties may not even be enough to pay for a 24 hour caregiving service which we started to engage sinc eSept 03 2019. Currently, I do not even have savings from our rental income so basically, I am financially disadvantaged.I do not also have retirement plan of my own. How can I correct this mistake of not working in my profession to please my husband’s wishes?

To Whom It May Concern:
While it is helpful to know how we can manage the Social Security benefits, we need help in other areas that the government does not address.
As caregivers we save the nation millions of dollars yet we are never given any help from the U.S. Government. I think we all deserve some respit care for our loved ones yet this has never been offered.
Sincerely,
Nancy Lombardo

Hi. My name is ****. I live across the street from my grandma and she recently got her driving privileges taken away. I go to her house every day to make sure she has every thing she needs. About 2 to 3 times a week she asked me to take her to HEB. Well she was going in alone but she fell in HEB one day because that day I beat her outside so I waited for her in my car because the previous time she beat me. Well when she called me to pick her up in the front she was in a wheel chair. So now I stay with her the whole time. Everyone tells me I can get compensated for all the time I have to take off of work to take her chicken from kfc and pick her up something from HEB. Is this true? Please call me at ******. My grandma is ***** and her birthday is *****. If you email please text me a reminder because I don’t really check my email that often!
Thank you for your time. Have a great day!
Sincerely,
*****

Being able to manage Direct Deposit, Wage Reporting, and Annual Reporting for Beneficiaries – in one convenient location Online is awesome. Basically, I just wanted to say thanks for making things a little easier with the new “Representative Payee Portal.” I look forward to utilizing it for future reporting and will try to leave a review post of how well it “does” or “does not” work for me.
Until then, if anyone else as already had experience using the “Representative Payee Portal” feature, Please let us know how it went. Thanks.

Thhe SSA is waiting on my Tax transcrips from 1980, 1981 and 1982. Why csn’t they ask the IRS directly…??? That would save so much time. I am old and sick.
