New Guidance about COVID-19 Economic Impact Payments

“The Treasury Department launched a new web tool allowing quick registration for Economic Impact Payments for eligible individuals who do not normally file a tax return, and also announced that it would begin making automatic payments. However, for some people receiving benefits from the Social Security Administration—specifically those who have dependent children under the age of 17—it is to their advantage to go to this portal to ensure they also get the $500 per dependent Economic Impact Payment. I encourage them to do this as soon as possible, and want to provide the following details:
People who receive Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability insurance benefits and who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and who have qualifying children under age 17 should now go to the IRS’s webpage to enter their information instead of waiting for their automatic $1,200 Economic Impact Payment. By taking proactive steps to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If Social Security beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, they will have to wait to receive their $500 per qualifying child.
The same new guidance also applies to SSI recipients, especially those who have qualifying children under age 17. To receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for, go to the IRS’s Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info page and provide information about yourself and your qualifying children.
Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information.
Lastly, for Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries who do not have qualifying children under age 17, you do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS as long as you received an SSA-1099 for 2019.
For SSI recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17, we continue to work closely with Treasury in our efforts to make these payments automatically. Please note that we will not consider Economic Impact Payments as income for SSI recipients.

Hi Betty, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

Hi there. I am on SSDI and have a representative payee. Just about everyone I have read about have been informed of a pending deposit on tomorrow. Are the recipients of SSDI with payee representatives receiving theirs on their direct express card too? Mine keeps saying “Status Eligibility Unavailable”. Please, please provide an answer for me. I am a represenative payee for my wife and my bank shows the combined stimulus of 2400 coming to my bank account not hers. i hope this helps. your payee should have yours funds thursday

Not true. It’s now the end of April & I have not received any direct deposit. Others have posted the same. I called my Congressman’s office & spoke to a staff member. I repeated what you said about “no later than and of April.” He questioned the validity of the post (I told him there was an official logo). He said there was no such deadline. I believe you are genuinely trying to help, but to say “no later than end of April” and not having it arrive makes the situation worse. If you want the name of the US Representative’s office I spoke with, my email is being submitted with this comment.

I am a combat disabled veteran receiving a pension as well as a social security check. My wife receives only a social security check as well. All checks come to us by auto bank deposit. We have not received any
COVID-19 stimulus funding since we read that if we are on the auto pay bank deposit roster we need to do nothing and the funding will automatically take effect. Is this still the case or has there been a change in policy? Or as the computer system crashed for individuals in our category? Thank you for any up dates you can give us.

I am POA for my ex-husband, who died in Nov. 2019. I filed his 2019 income tax & received a refund. I just received a stimulus check in his name, showing deceased, c/o me.

I recieve SSDI and I am the representative payee for my 10 year old son who recieves SSI. I completed the non filers form to receive the $500 stimulus for him by the deadline. I checked my direct express card and my stimulus payment is pending but not for him. Will I receive the payment for him?

The Treasury Dept stated that the impact stimulus payment for SS recipients will be issued AFTER May the 1st and throughout the month in the form of a direct bank account deposit or by a check……depending on how you get your payment now. Give it time. If you call the IRS, that could delay your payment.

I am on SSI someone claimed me on there taxes this year so now I do not get a stimulus check, due to this issue I receive 704 dollars a month I pay 600 for rent a month utilities included I only have 104 dollars to last all month I pay my own bills and I won’t receive a stimulus check to help me just because I was claimed as a dependent
