woman sitting by fireplace on her laptop In April, we celebrate National Social Security Month, and highlight our agency’s mission and purpose. We’re with you throughout life’s journey — from birth, to marriage, and into retirement — and we’re always searching for ways to give you easy and secure access to everything we offer.

We are constantly expanding our online services to give you freedom and control in how you wish to conduct business with us. Our online services help you plan for the future and keep you in control of your benefits. You can go online to:

  1. Find out if you qualify for benefits.
  2. Use our benefit planners to help you better understand your Social Security protection.
  3. Estimate your future retirement benefits to help you plan for your financial future.
  4. Retire online, or apply for Medicare quickly and easily.
  5. Open your personal my Social Security account. Your personal account is the most powerful tool to help you stay in control of your Social Security record. If you don’t receive benefits yet, you can:
    • Get your Social Security Statement to review your earnings, make sure they’re recorded correctly.
    • Get a benefit verification letter to prove you don’t receive Social Security benefits or that you applied but haven’t received an answer yet.
    • Request a replacement Social Security card if you meet certain requirements.
    • Check the status of your application or appeal a decision.

If you receive benefits, you can:

  1. Change your address and phone number.
  2. Get a benefit verification letter to prove you receive Social Security benefits, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), or Medicare.
  3. Start deposits or change your direct deposit information at any time.
  4. Get a replacement Medicare card.
  5. Get a replacement Benefit Statement (SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S) for tax purposes.

Do you own a business? You can also use our Business Services Online suite to report employee wages and verify names and Social Security numbers for W-2s.

Join us and celebrate National Social Security Month by seeing everything you can do online!

can I make an appointment online for my local office?

    • R.F.

Thank you for contacting us, Lynne. We currently do not have an online appointment scheduler. However, many services, including applying for retirement, disability and Medicare benefits, requesting a replacement Medicare card, or reporting a change of address are conveniently available anytime at our website.
In April we celebrate “National Social Security Month“, see what you can do online at http://www.SocialSecurity.gov. Thanks!

    my SS# IS *** – ** – *** thank you.

I would also like you to know that my premium was reduced by a low-income Subsidy amount through Kaiser, the new amount that I should be paying is $64.60 for my Medicare as of 4/6/18.
Please make the necessary adjustments and change the amount.
    Sincerely yours,

Hello Diana. You can request a benefit verification letter online by using your personal my Social Security account.
Unfortunately, and because of security reasons we do not have access to personal records in this blog and cannot help you update your records. One of our representatives should be able to assist you. Please call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 for assistance. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later during the day or later in the week.
Just a reminder – Please be cautious about posting personal information on social media and communicating personal information via email. Thanks!

I am scared about hackers getting my information. Online?

I just received a message about working online with the SSA is wonderful. I can agree to some extent that this is true. When I signed up for retirement benefits, that was great. But when I had to rescind my decision it took over 9 months, and three visits to the SSA. The first time, I went to fill the forms out in person because I wanted to assure that the form was filled out correctly. The document was lost. The second time, when they took my document, it was faxed incorrectly. It took another 3 weeks.
BUT…the most upsetting thing about my visits were that there was no record anywhere that I had visited the office to make a request. And I could not check online as to what was happening with my account.
So let me ask this question…when someone goes into the SSA for some kind of action, why do you not get a RECORD number or RECEIPT number as to your visit?

How can I email an agent regarding replacing some years of 0 income with income I have earned since starting social security benefits in 2017. I earned more income in 2016 and 2017 and will in 2018 than I did in several years that were used in deciding my SS benefit amount. Please advise.
