A Social Security 1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on your tax return.

I am on disability and my total benefits show one number and below it states with an asterisk *INCLUDES: $$$ paid in 2019 for 2018. Does anyone know how I’m supposed to report my 2019 earnings? Should that additional money from 2018 be included or do I have to amend my 2018 taxes. However, box 5 has the total amount that I need to report on my 2019 tax returns! I’m so confused. Someone help please!

When will ssi get stimulus checks

    • V.V.

Hi Rocky, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.

My wife received a lump sump on a disability claim and her ssdi amount/mo was reduced to accommodate that claim. On her SSA1099 for 2019 of the $25000, $11000 was added for WC offset. Please explain what this 11,000 is and also, is this a 1 time event or will this be a yearly addition

How can SSDI recipients retired abroad and who file their tax returns (albeit owing no taxes and expecting zero refund) do now so that Treasury can send them their stimulus payment via direct deposit to their US Bank where they normally get their monthly SSDI payments?

  9. Antonio

I am a Disabled American retired abroad. I get my monthly SSDI Benefits from the Treasury Department (310) via direct deposit in my US Bank account (so Treasury already has my US Bank info).

I get my annual SSA-1099 form, but it does not say anything about Direct Deposit or my US Bank info. It only shows my US mailing address.

I am a zero filer. I owe no taxes. I had already E-filed, via TurboTax, my 2019 Tax return because I have a small additional investment income. My tax return shows my address overseas not my US mailing address. It was accepted by the IRS.

In the IRS ‘Get My Payment’ site, I entered my foreign address (format is very different from a US address) exactly as I entered it in TurboTax on my Tax return (with a six-digit zip code). The site gave an error message “The information you provided does not match our records”. For 3 days, I tried different formats for my foreign address, and I kept getting locked out for 24 hours after 3 attempts.

So, how can SSDI recipients retired abroad and file their tax returns (albeit owing no taxes and expecting zero refund) do now so that Treasury can send them their stimulus payment via direct deposit to their US Bank where they normally get their monthly SSDI payments?

    Thank you,

    Antonio

    • V.V.

Hi Antonio, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

  10. Pamela G.

I would like to become my son’s legal Representative over medical decisions and so on. I could not find the document needed to fill out. I am already his represented payee. Thank you

    • V.V.

Hi Pamela, thank you for using our blog. Although Social Security has the representative payee program, it does not handle legal guardianship or power of attorney appointments. You may want to contact legal aid for assistance. We hope this helps.
