Get a Replacement Social Security Tax Form Online With Ease
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: November 3, 2023
It’s that time of year again. Preparing for tax season can seem overwhelming. Some forms and paperwork might be difficult to track down. If you misplaced your Benefits Statement or haven’t received it by the end of January, we’ve made it easy to go online to get a replacement with a personal my Social Security account.
An SSA-1099, also called a Benefit Statement, is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to the more than 60 million people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits received from Social Security in the previous year so people know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on their tax return.
For noncitizens who live outside of the United States and received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we’ll send form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).
If you currently live in the United States and need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, we have a way for you to get a replacement quickly and easily. Go online and get a replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.
Every worker in the United States should create a personal my Social Security account. The secure and personalized features of my Social Security are valuable tools to help Americans plan for retirement.

Need to change my tax withholding from social security check. SSA told me to obtain a W4V form, complete it, sign then mail. But i cannot find this form on SSA.gov
How can i obtain this form to change my tax withholding?

Hi, Richard. In order to have taxes withheld from your Social Security benefit, you must start by printing, completing and submitting an IRS Voluntary Withholding Request Form (Form W-4V). On this form, you can choose to have 7, 10, 12, or 22 percent of your monthly benefit withheld. The Form W-4V (to withhold federal taxes from your Social Security benefits) can be returned to your local Social Security office by mail or in person. See our Benefits Planner: Withholding Income Tax From Your Social Security Benefits web page for more information. We hope this helps.

Hi, Victoria. For your security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. It sounds like you are referring to the SSA-1099, tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. For years prior to the last year, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) between 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. to speak to one of our representatives for assistance. Or you can contact your local Social Security office. Generally, you will have a shorter wait time if you call later in the day. We hope this helps.

I NEED FOR TAXES
L.A.
Hi Michael. Thanks for your question. The SSA-1099 is mailed by January 31 each year. If for any reason you do not receive your SSA-1099 in the mail by then, starting on February 1, you can request a replacement for the previous tax year. And the good news is that you can request it by using her your personal my Social Security account. Please visit our Frequently Asked Questions for more information. We also asked that members of this group not to post personal information on our social media channel. We hope this helps.

Hello, I am trying to get a replacement 1099 for my deceased Uncle. He Passed away 9/24/2017, and I am unable to find a copy of his 2017 1099 from the Defence Finance and Accounting service.
Please point me in the direction to achieve this task. I tried to get it online, but it seems that the My Social Security access is only for individuals. I am the trust executor.
Thanks
L.A.
Hi William. We are sorry to hear about your loss. The SSA-1099 is mailed to the last address in our records, and is intended for the spouse or executor of the deceased. If the SSA-1099 cannot be located, the executor will need to go into the local Social Security office with proof of death and proof of executorship. A SSA-1099 may also be given to someone who is receiving benefits on the deceased beneficiary’s record such as a spouse, parent, or child. If you need more information, call our toll-free number at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) and ask a representative for assistance. We hope this helps.
