man and woman on laptop It’s that time of year again. Preparing for tax season can seem overwhelming. Some forms and paperwork might be difficult to track down. If you misplaced your Benefits Statement or haven’t received it by the end of January, we’ve made it easy to go online to get a replacement with a personal my Social Security account.

An SSA-1099, also called a Benefit Statement, is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to the more than 60 million people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits received from Social Security in the previous year so people know how much Social Security income to report to the IRS on their tax return.

For noncitizens who live outside of the United States and received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we’ll send form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

If you currently live in the United States and need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, we have a way for you to get a replacement quickly and easily. Go online and get a replacement form with a personal my Social Security account.

Every worker in the United States should create a personal my Social Security account. The secure and personalized features of my Social Security are valuable tools to help Americans plan for retirement.

I have spent an hour wading thru this disaster w/ NO RESULTS!!!!!!
I only need to replace my 2017 statement!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mom completed a form to get a replacement SSA 1099 since February 2018 and now it is April 10, 2018 and still not received a replacement. I also had her complete it with a new address, and the form says it doesn’t update change of address. There is no change of address form and her password doesn’t work anymore and my mom doesn’t know how to use a computer.
It is a nightmare to get anything done through SSA.
All we need is a replacement 1099 for 2017 and it hasn’t been sent to her. I was told to go down to the local office and have her address updated. I went down there and was told that she would have to physically come in. My mom is over 90 years old and physically can’t walk as she is now disabled and living in assisted living. I’ve spent at least an hour and half on the phone on hold while nothing can be done as said I should go down to the local office. I did that but the supervisor there said I should wait to receive it by mail, I tried to explain that she moved and obviously the old address won’t accept any of her mail as she is no longer there. I can’t believe now stupid that agency is and of course the IRS isn’t going to wait even with an extension filed by me on her behalf. I am so upset that a change of address couldn’t be done. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that one would call back. I called at 12 noon and got off the phone at 1:10 pm and haven’t received any call back or a new password to reset so I can retrieve her 1099 on line.
I am going to file the extension with the IRS, and pay the estimated taxes for my mom. I had a bad feeling that this department is that bad and can’t get anything done properly for a senior. I just want to make sure we get this 1099 as required by the IRS, in order to file her income tax for 2017. It doesn’t look like it can be done on time. Eight weeks of waiting since February 2018 is a very long time to wait and I’m sure they sent it to the old address, although there was a updated address on the form which is probably the wrong form. It was the one that was on their website, to request it.
I left messages before and never received an obvious solution. I am so disappointed and upset with them, SSA is such an non responsible government agency. They are messing with seniors tax information and don’t care either. No return call either today.
