Easily Access Your Social Security Benefit Statement

The Benefit Statement is also known as the SSA-1099 or the SSA-1042S. Now you have the ability to download it anytime and anywhere you want using our online services. There’s no need to visit a field office.
An SSA-1099 is a tax form Social Security mails each year in January to people who receive Social Security benefits. It shows the total amount of benefits you received from Social Security in the previous year so you know how much Social Security income to report to IRS on your tax return.
If you currently live in the United States and you need a replacement form SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S, simply go online and request an instant, printable replacement form with a my Social Security account.
A replacement SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S is available for the previous tax year after February 1.
If you already have a personal my Social Security account, you can access your online account to view and print your SSA-1099 or SSA-1042S. If you don’t have access to a printer, you can save the document on your computer or laptop and email it. If you don’t have a my Social Security account, creating a secure account is very easy to do and usually takes less than 15 minutes.
If you’re a noncitizen who lives outside of the United States and you received or repaid Social Security benefits last year, we will send you form SSA-1042S instead. The forms SSA-1099 and SSA-1042S are not available for people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

Hi, Linda. You can get a benefit verification letter online instantly by using your personal my Social Security account. To set up your account, visit the my Social Security web page and select, “Sign In or Create an Account.” You will need to provide some personal information to verify your identity, choose a username and password and follow the rest of the steps to finish creating your account. Once you create your account, scroll down to the Benefits and Payments section and choose “get benefit verification letter” where you can instantly view, print, or save your official letter. If you are unable to create an account or encounter a problem, you may call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. At the voice prompt, say “helpdesk” or you can contact your local Social Security office. Thanks for your question, Mary. You can get your personal Social Security Statement online by using your my Social Security account. We also mail paper Statements to workers age 60 and older three months before their birthday if they don’t receive Social Security benefits and don’t yet have a my Social Security account. Workers who don’t want to wait for their scheduled mailing can request their Social Security Statement by following these instructions. The Statement will arrive by mail in four to six weeks.

I’m curious as to why when using My Soc Sec Account it does not allow me to request a replacement card online. I need to now more about claiming from my exspouse to whom I was married for over 20 years. I am now 72 and claiming under my own name. As a student and homemaker, I stupidly worked as a home baby sitter and odd jobs.
He had funds moved from our savings and Social Security –moved them into his Federal Government retirement. At our divorce, I was supposed to get a share of his retirement. His social is I believe for Robert Lewis James.

To be eligible for divorced spouse benefits, you had to be married to your former spouse for at least 10 years, and you cannot be eligible for a higher benefit on your own record.
