Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: February 21, 2023
All local Social Security offices will be closed to the public for in-person service starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employees during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, we are still able to provide critical services.

When will the offices be opened up Ion my state arkansas?
V.V.
Hi Deborah, thanks for using our blog. The White House issued national guidance regarding Opening Up America Again. We are evaluating this information as it relates to our agency and are continuing to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation across the nation. In fulfilling Social Security’s mission, when we reopen offices to the public, we will provide a safe environment for both the people we serve and our employees.
As we continue to develop our plans, our offices will remain closed to the public for face-to-face service, and our employees will continue to work remotely and provide services to the public. We will provide updates moving forward and post updated information on the status of our offices, by state, at http://www.socialsecurity.gov/coronavirus. Our agency will provide these updates directly, and please disregard other sources of information regarding the status of our offices.

Please help me find out where my stimulus check is. I got a debit card from Visa that we were to call up and verify. My husband & I do NOT want a debit card. So I cut it up & threw it away. NOW I hear that the money is sent in the manner of a debit card! Did I cut IT up???? I saw NOTHING that says it is the stimulus money. I have heard that other people have thrown it out because it looks like junk mail! HELP!!!

how is it possible to apply for a social aecurity card at this time who do i call where do igo from here.thanks
V.V.
Hi Frederick, thank you for your question. First, realize you may not need a replacement card. You will rarely need to show it. Knowing your Social Security number is what is important. However, if you must get a replacement card, you may be able to apply online. Check out our Frequently Asked Questions web page for details on how to apply for a replacement Social Security card. If you are unable to apply online and you do not want to mail in your documents, which will be returned, you may need to wait for the offices to reopen. Use our Social Security Office Locator to find your local office address. We hope this helps.
