Coronavirus (COVID-19): Important Information about Social Security Services

All local Social Security offices will be closed to the public for in-person service starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. This decision protects the population we serve—older Americans and people with underlying medical conditions—and our employees during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. However, we are still able to provide critical services.

    Now that the bill has been signed by the president Social Security should be able to give a real answer.(Not looking for anybody who thinks they know the answers just a Social Security moderator to answer,thanks)

    2. Will Social Security and Social Security Disability receive the stimulus payment.

    3. If yes will we need to file tax returns

    4. Will payments be loaded on our direct express cards or sent by check?

    My dad was claimed on 2018 taxes by my sister . BUT not on 2019 as he has his own place now…He is on SS and get retirement check . will he get 1200.00 ?

    WOW those of us who received SSI and other government stipends DO NOT repeat DO NOT file income tax returns as that these stipends are NOT taxable income, they are ENTITLEMENTS in which they are again again NOT TAXABLE
    so how does one with a government stipend APPLY for said checks?

      It’s sent to you as is your yearly SSA-1099 form which states how much you got for the yesr. If you get direct deposit it’ll go in the bank. If you don’t it’ll show up in the mailbox. Don’t worry, you’ll get it as you do all SSA mail.

    AARP worked to ensure that individuals who are collecting Social Security benefits for retirement, disability or Supplemental Security Income will be eligible for the stimulus checks, based on their tax returns or Social Security Administration data. AARP successfully fought to guarantee that low-income Social Security recipients would receive the full $1,200 check, not $600 as originally proposed.

    Would a adult child dependent who is on SSI who lives with their parents get a stimulus check?

      Are individuals with little to no income or those on means-tested federal benefits, such as SSI, eligible for a recovery rebate? Yes, there is no qualifying income requirement. Even individuals with $0 of income are eligible for a rebate so long as they are not the dependent of another taxpayer and have a work-eligible SSN.

      So that would be a no from the way this sounds!

    Help I can’t find my social security card and the website won’t let me create an online account, keeps rejecting my info. Just turned 18 a couple weeks ago and trying to get a replacement SS card so I can get a job. I have a SS # but the employer wants to see card, as they are unable to verify the number through the e-verify system.
    Where can I send the SS-5 form to to get a replacement card? My local office is closed in Tucson, AZ.

    My son’s and I April disability and ssi check have been direct deposited into account But “pending” until the first. In the meantime, I cannot work my part time job, have no money for food,utilities ect. Why can they not release the already received direct deposit checks early during corvid crisis? It would also help stagger the overwhelming crowd of people on the first that will swarm food stores ect

      My check most of the time comes early but it always says pending and I’ve always spent/taken it out way before the first and nothing ever happens nothing will happen if you start taking the money out before the first it just means you won’t have any money on the first because you already spent it and you will not be changed an overdraft fee

        My bank (credit union) won’t allow any access online or inperson, Can only see the amount and “pending” date… I just don’t umderstand why they cannot relax the waiting time during a pandemic,, especially since others are worse off then me and have nothing “pending”.. Seems extreme that a credit union can’t release the funds early during this time-(

      If the money is in the TOTAL in your bank account…regardless of pending, it means the money is there and can be used. I have never seen SSI payment in my account that you cannot use right away. If there is a line item for the amount but it is NOT included in the total for the account that would be strange. It shouldn’t show up anywhere in your account until the day it is supposed to be there. Pending just means that the money is there but the technical process is not finished. According to an SSI person I talked to on the phone. SSI checks for the 1st are sent a week before. If a bank decides to give you the money early then they can, but most do NOT. Once in a while if a weekend or holiday takes out the 1st as the payment date then sometimes the bank will deposit it a day or two early. Also, regardless at least for SSI checks. ALWAYS make sure you spend wisely to last the month. Like the man told me on the phone a lot of people who would get their check early would probably run out before the end of the next month, especially if the bank puts it in early then puts it in on the first the next month. So be careful on a limited income.
