“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

If you are a representative payee for your spouse how would they receive their stimulus check. I have direct deposit with Social Security for him but he still has not received anything and I’m not sure who to ask how it will be sent by mail or what. Please help!!

Hi Beverly, thank you for your question. The Internal Revenue Service, which is part of the Department of Treasury, will be making Economic Income Payments to eligible people. To help you quickly and easily determine whether you need to take any action to receive your Economic Impact Payment, or a payment for your qualifying child, check out the step-by-step instructions on the Social Security and Coronavirus web page.

I am an SSI recipient. Am I eligible for the stimulus check program? If so how do I apply. I currently get my SSI through direct express deposit. Do I need to apply How? If so how do I apply? Whenever can ssi recipients expect to get a stimulus check? Please let me know what to do? Thank you.

As a SSi like myself you need to do nothing. The IRS website states in the Q&A we will receive it in early May that i assume is before the 15th.If you receive your benefits direct deposit thats how you and i will get the stimulus $.

I have not received my stimulus check yet on my direct express card

My 2 disabled sons will not receive a stimulus check due to the fact that I (their mother) claimed them on my tax return. One receives SSI and Social Security and the other receives Social Security. I only claimed them as dependents due to the fact I furnish them a home to live in. Neither of them could afford a home on the incomes they are getting, yet they can’t receive a stimulus check on account of my taxes. They are getting penalized for something I done.

I get ssdi and ssi and I still haven’t received my stimulus payment. My question is this… are they depositing so many checks a day? My brother n law received his and both my adult children have received theirs… course they got theirs the first round of checks because of their tax returns.
I am not trying to complain because I am so grateful for the payment that is coming but I guess I just need to be reassured that I will actually get a payment. From what I have heard and read if someone is on disability they qualify. I have that and ssi so my chances are good right? ?

I meet the requirements, don’t file taxes, but receive a 1099 form each year, on SSDI and get direct deposit. Can someone please explain what the hold up is? OR what we need to do additionally? We were told that ”you don’t need to do anything” to get your payment, As well as ”you should receive your EIP deposit my the end of April”

SSA should have an obligation to us to explain what exactly is going on here. This is a lot of money for individuals on fixed incomes. Show some respect for us and give us an update. Stop ignoring our questions, it’s rude and unethical.

  8. Zana C.

My name is Zana C. Bagley, and I did not receive my monthly benefit check in April. My check date is the 1st of the month, it is now May 5, 2020 and the last check I received was in March 2020. Who do I contact to find out what is wrong?

    • V.V.

Hi Zana. Please contact your bank or financial institution first. They may be able to determine if your direct deposit failed. If you still need to report a late, missing or stolen Social Security payment, call us toll-free at 1-800-772-1213 or you can contact your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information.
