“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

I just don’t get why my husbands said in Get my payment his check would be directly deposited on Aril 29th into our bank account and it never did. He doesn’t owe any money he would have to pay back.

    • Mary S.

Even if owed money umless 1 million or more debt to irs you still get stimulus. Its going off of income levels of ssdi/rrr/ssi etc. So if 10-19,999k it should be this week. If 20-29,999 should be next week and so on. Wherever his check goes for his ssdi or ss etc is how it will be deposited. However say you work and claim him as dependent then it will go to you. Hope that helps.

    Dear Commissioner,
I do understand that this Pandemic has left us all in situations we would rather not be in. Still when the CARES ACT was being discussed, the SSA should have been getting the information needed for the IRS. There are millions of Social Security recipients who were totally confused as to how the CARES ACT would affect them. I find this so unacceptable that in 2020 this could not been handled better. If there is anyone who agrees with me, please respond. If there was a better way to implement the CARES ACT please leave your comment.
    Thank you

I haven’t gotten my Stimulus Check either. Can’t get any answers as to where or when I will receive it. I have Direct Deposit, but not Direct Express Card. I have been receiving SSDI for 3 years. Never had any problems getting my benefits. Now its seems to be a problem with the Stimulus Check. something tells me I will not see this money, and will wait months before I get any straight answers.

I’m on SSI . My son claimed me as a dependent on his taxes. Why did he get the 1200 and I don’t qualify??? It doesn’t make sense

    • Mary S.

You qualify but they sent yours to him because he claims he pays for your dependence and living bills. Doesnt mean that money isnt for YOU; Its just how they went about to make sure nobody received double payments. But technically that money is YOURS!

  6. Mary S.

Got mine 2 hrs ago via Direct Express card deposit. 😉

    • danielle m.

Did it show as pending or did it just show up on the card?

    • Danielle B.

Hey did it show as pending or did the payment just show up?

      • Mary S.

It just showed up. Im at the payment level one of 10,000 to i believe 19,999 a year then the next level up should be next week and i think they go by the 10th of thousands of that makes sense. God Bless.
