“I want to provide an update to people who receive benefits from the Social Security Administration.

The Department of the Treasury (Treasury) announced on April 1 that Social Security beneficiaries who are not typically required to file tax returns will not need to file an abbreviated tax return to receive an economic impact payment. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will use the information on the Form SSA-1099 to generate $1,200 economic impact payments to Social Security beneficiaries who did not file tax returns in 2018 or 2019.

Treasury, not Social Security, will make automatic payments to Social Security beneficiaries. Beneficiaries will receive these payments by direct deposit or by paper check, just as they would normally receive their Social Security benefits.

For updates from the IRS, visit their web page.

Note for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Recipients:

We are working closely with Treasury to address outstanding questions about our SSI recipients in an attempt to make the issuance of economic impact payments as quick and efficient as possible. We realize people are concerned, and the IRS will provide additional information on their web page when available. Please note that we will not consider economic impact payments as income for SSI recipients, and the payments are excluded from resources for 12 months.”

My daughter is my payee. I’m getting ssdi. An still no deposit on direct express card. Should I call social security . I need an answer please.

    • V.V.

Hi Sheila, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

Hi Donny, thank you for your question. Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center to answer your questions about eligibility, payment amounts, what to expect, when to expect it and more. You may also find the IRS Online Tool Guide helpful to determine what action you may need to take. Hopefully this information is helpful.

Both myself and my husband are on social security. We have filed our 2018 taxes, however we owed tax so we will not have any direct deposit information on our tax return. Do we need to supply it, or will they get our direct deposit info from the SSA?

    • V.V.

Hi Suzi, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. No

    • V.V.

  8. Deedeedee

I’m really angry that the IRS and the Social Security administration has not addressed this for so many people. They haven’t even addressed what date the Social Security combined with SSI beneficiaries will get their payment deposited. I think they’re doing this on purpose. I don’t see any reason why a disabled adult child receiving his own Social Security based on the retired parents record should not have information on the portal now that says when they are getting their deposit or even IF they are getting the deposit. Right now it just says we don’t know based on your record whether you even qualify. This is outrageous.

  9. Doug H.

have monthly social security payments been delayed because of the COVD 19?

    • Bridget

      No

  10. Marilyn M.

I am Representative Payee for SSA-1099 person. Representative Payee and person is on checking account and he has not received his stimulus payment. He does not file taxes because no other income to report.
When I put his social security number in system it would not give me any information. He gets his his SSA money
each month deposited in the about stated checking account with his name/Representative Payee name on account. When will he get his direct deposit and do I have to do anything to make sure he gets it?

    • Kenneth F.

        • patti

I collect ssdi. earlier in the evening when I checked my direct Express card the money wasn’t there. I just called direct express and it now shows 1200 pending and it will be available on the 29th.

    • GINA W.

My sister is my payee too, and I get SSD and I keep checking and the get payment site on irs and it will not give me any info, plus social security people are getting their checks direct deposited this week, but I called my bank and I am not getting mine this week. Is there something SSD people with Payee Accounts have to do?

      • Kathleen H.

I am in the same boat as u. My sister is my rep payee. Have u found anything out by chance? Thx. ?

        • Peter

Let me say this , some payee keep things out of the hands of whom they are the recipients this is especially true with family members, im not making this up, its so sad but it happens often, your payee should get it for you and good luck on it whenever irs gets there ass moving sending all social security stimulus cks OUT , good grief irs
