I am a California resident requesting a replacement SSAN card. It says I can do this online but I have been attempting to find where to do it and it just keeps sending me back to mySoc etc. I have created an account for this purpose. Very frustrating that there is no clear path to accomplish this on your website.

Your site sends me to My Account. I signed in and requested local California Offices. Then it sends me back to My account and the same instructions send me back to this site. All I want is a list of Southern California offices, since, apparently, US citizens must notify their local office. There is no opportunity to request a replacement card on line.

Like others, using the My Social Security account, I don’t have the option of replacing my SS card online (I’ve been a California resident for over 10 years). I am instructed to contact my local office – the ability to not have to deal with the hassle of contacting my local office is the primary benefit of doing this online! From what I can tell from searching online, many CA residents are in the same situation. Help!

I live in one of the states for which the online replacement option should be available for US citizens. But at the ssa.gov site the following appears:

If you are not a U.S. citizen, you can request a replacement card through your local office or by mail.
If you are a U.S. citizen, please notify your local office.

Can you provide a link to where in the ssa site a replacement card can be obtained?

We apologize for the inconvenience, Ken. The site to apply online for a replacement Social Security card appears to be working. Generally, the error message you mentioned means there may be a discrepancy in our records, and you are required to contact us. Please call our toll free number at 1-800-772-1213 and one of our agents will provide further guidance. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Or contact your local Social Security office directly. Thank you.

Lots of complaints, I see. Too many, actually. I used the website and found it to be efficient. I had all the verifying information, and could answer all questions and populate all required fields. My replacement card is on the way.
I am concerned, however, about potential fraud. This online service joins countless others that “make it easier”; Sure, but what about the jobs it replaces? What happened to humans taking care of other humans face-to-face? Technology is not only stealing work from the human race, it lacks a sense of judgement only a person can apply.
So, yes, I used it today. I wanted to see how easy it is. It’s ok, not special in any way. I won’t use it again, nor will I recommend it to anyone.

When will the small state of Vermont be added to the list of states able to obtain a replacement social security card online…driving to a local office is a hardship for many due to the rural locations of towns and villages in Vermont..a round trip for us would be close to 100 miles…that is absurd with all the technology available..why would the VT DMV not share data with another agency in order to streamline a process to obtain such an important document? I look forward to seeing Vermont on the list soon…..

We plan to add more states in the future, so we encourage you to check with us later in the year!
