Appeal Your Non-Medical Decisions Online

You no longer need to visit our offices or call us to appeal a denial or adverse action related to your benefits. Beginning December 10, 2016, you can file an appeal online for non-medical issues, even if you live outside the United States. Examples of non-medical appeals include those for overpayments and Medicare premium rates.

The online appeals application is simple, convenient, and secure; it guides you through every step of the process. From outlining your rights to an appeal, to publications on the appeals process, a fair review of your case is right at your fingertips. The online application also lets you upload supporting documentation and save your submission.

Submitting your appeal and necessary documents online will save time and can help expedite the decision. Here are some things you’ll need when you’re ready to submit an appeal:

  • Notice date or receipt from Social Security that explains what adverse action you wish to appeal; and
  • Supporting documentation you wish to add to your request for appeal.

    Hello,
    Last year (2018) I filed an appeal to have the IRMAA increase removed and was approved for both Part B and Part D. Is there anyway, in order to save time and effort to have last years information carryover to 2019?

    I have been living outside of the US and have only used my Medicare Medical Insurance only once in over 20 years. I want to delete the insurance since I have been paying all my medical bills from my own funds.

    I have called several times and stayed on hold waiting up to 3 hours and having to hang up. I have written 2 previous letters asking for help with no response . For some reason I have a deduction for voluntary federal tax withholding. I do not want this and have been trying to have it stopped for a year. Please contact me I need help with this I get so little I do without things each month. They are deducting 71.50.

      Hi Linda, sorry to hear about the difficulties you are having with Social Security. To stop your withholding, you’ll need a Form W-4V from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). You can download the form or call the IRS toll-free at 1-800-829-3676 and ask for Form W-4V. Sign the form and return it to your local Social Security office by mail or in person.

      Thank you for contacting us, Maureen. You can check the application status in your my Social Security account which will show if a decision has been made on your appeal. If you do not already have an account, you can create one. Go to Sign In or Create an Account. If you’re unable to check the status of your appeal online, you may call us at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778), Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. or you can contact your local Social Security office.

    Hi. I would like to appeal my medicare payment amounts. Our income has been reduced below the $180 K . We had a commercial lease that expired in 2018. so our income has gone way down. Your letter said I have 60 days to appeal. does this email count as a start to the appeal. and how do i appeal. thank you.

    You said that I would get a .028 percent raise in 2019. I had received $ 516 in 2018, and am still getting $ 516 in 20019. Where is my ,028 raise ?

      Hi Lilly. For some beneficiaries, their Social Security increase may be partially or completely offset by increases in Medicare premiums. The Social Security Act contains a “hold harmless” provision that protects most beneficiaries. The amount of the benefit will stay the same even though the Medicare Part B premium increases. For information about Medicare premiums in 2019, visit http://www.medicare.gov.

    I ONLY WISH THE INCREASE BY 2.8% OF MY S.S. BENEFITS WOULD REACH, AT LEAST, U.S.$700.00, INSTEAD OF THE 680.00.
