Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department soon. People receiving benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here section to provide their information.

Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries with dependent children and who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Wednesday, April 22, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. SSI recipients need to take this action by later this month; a specific date will be available soon.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200. People would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge Social Security and SSI recipients with qualifying children who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Action Needed for Social Security Beneficiaries with Dependents and Who Do Not File Tax Returns to Receive $500 Per Child Payment

People with Direct Express debit cards who enter information at the IRS’s website should complete all of the mandatory questions, but they may leave the bank account information section blank as Treasury already has their Direct Express information on file.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information as they will not receive automatic payments from Treasury.

I’m on SSDI & don’t file taxes I called my Direct Express card & it says I have a pending payment of $1200 scheduled for April 29th at 12am. All I can suggest for anyone receiving SSDI that has their regular benefits loaded onto their Direct Express card on May 1st like I do is to keep checking the “Get my Payment” website & 2 keep calling phone # on back of Direct Express card. There was an account # listed on the website yesterday that didn’t match up w/my Direct express card so I was freaking out but I called my card 2day & like I said its pending for 29th. I hope this little bit of info helps.

I filed my 2018 and 2019 tax returns and paid taxes with the returns each year so I did not enter my bank information on either return. I am retired and receive Social security by electronic payment monthly. Do I need to enter my bank information to receive the $1,200 stimulus check electronically?

I just called my Direct Express card and finally got a pending deposit for 1200 itll be on my card Wednesday 29th…I’m not lying I just wanted everyone to know th as t they are finally coming. Before I checked I talked th o social security administration and they told me them and the treasury department sent out over 600,000 deposits to direct Express to be on people’s cards this week, she didn’t have to tell me that..anyway I’m so happy it isn’t a lot compared to what I used to have but it’s a lot to me know. Hope you all get yours too..

Don’t they do pending deposit information 12 to 24 hours prior?

The IRS and SSA are full of affirmative personnel who do nothing. There are more than 60,000 people in the SSA and another 45000+ in the IRS. The people who are the most venerable to the virus and required to stay at home are the one being screwed. Look at this way 80 plus % of the people who die are over 65, just think how much the SSA is saving.

A family member moved to the States in Feb. 2020 (permanent residence)haven’t received the SS card. I called and they told us that they have to apply for it.
It will take up to 3 weeks to receive it. Can they still apply for the Stimulus Check if they get the SS card in May?

    • V.V.

Hi Elizabeth, thank you for your question. Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center to answer your questions about eligibility, payment amounts, what to expect, when to expect it and more. Hope this helps!

Finally got the ‘get my payment’ to work and it says it should be direct deposited later this week.

I’m on disability and have had my payments direct deposited for years, I do not have any children under the age of 17. I have not yet received the stimulus money and trying to find info of when I should get it is very frustrating. I’ve tried the ‘where’s my payment’ on the irs website and it never works (status unavailable). How can I find out when I should get it?

    • Sandy

I received an email saying SSI recipients (without dependent children) will get payments sent out by the end of the first week in May.
