Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department soon. People receiving benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here section to provide their information.

Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries with dependent children and who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Wednesday, April 22, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. SSI recipients need to take this action by later this month; a specific date will be available soon.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200. People would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge Social Security and SSI recipients with qualifying children who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Action Needed for Social Security Beneficiaries with Dependents and Who Do Not File Tax Returns to Receive $500 Per Child Payment

People with Direct Express debit cards who enter information at the IRS’s website should complete all of the mandatory questions, but they may leave the bank account information section blank as Treasury already has their Direct Express information on file.

Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information as they will not receive automatic payments from Treasury.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Michelle. Treasury, not Social Security, will make these payments. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Continue to check the Internal Revenue Service Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page for updates. Thanks.

      • Michelle

When do I. Get my. Stimulus money in to.my. Direct Express Debt

  4. Shawn R.

I have a problem that I don’t know what to do with. I am receiving ssdi. I haven’t got the stimulus money yet and as I’m sure for most it is past the point of being needed. It has been causing me added stress in this uncertain time we’re already in. Does anyone know why we haven’t received it yet and or when we will?

    • Ann C.

Hi, Shawn. We are sorry to hear about your situation. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the Internal Revenue Service Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page for updates. Thanks.

  5. Alan

It seem the director has stated Soon many times. The IRS has stated they have no files of DD for SSA, SSI, VA or RR. The Get My Payment portal is useless for 90% of SSA users with zero info. Why would checks being send out and All SSA have DD and nothing deposited? Someone is pulling a fast one. 3 weeks and no DD for 10s of millions. Why???

  6. Ursula C.

My husband is on SSI does he get a stimulus check?

    • Vonda V.

Hi Urseula, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

I have Soc.Sec disability plus SSI I have been on that since 2000 . I don’t know if I’m to go to Soc sec sign up or not I don’t pay taxes..Can any one help me

    • Roger B.

You don’t have to do anything.Your info is already in their system. You will receive your $1200 on your normal pay day either the first or the third of May whichever day you get it.Best Wishes and hope I could answer your question..

    • Vonda V.

Hi Joyce, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. I have been getting my Social Security Retirement Benefits for years. But this is the first time IN HISTORY, just a month ago in March 2020, I allowed my son to claim me as a dependent on his taxes, does that disqualify me from getting a stimulus check…… …..

I’m hoping that the dependent disqualification rule applies to MAINLY NON SOCIAL SECURITY receiving adults, like students and adult non tax payers.

It is MY UNDERSTANDING that the IRS is sending a lump sum of money over to the Social Security Administration and also to the Veteran’s Administration and let THEM (SSA), (VA) distribute it among their respective payees……as the (SSA) and also the (VA) see fit.

    • Alan

It is stated right on this site that IRS is paying us and not SS. The IRS states they have no DD files from SS and no info. That is on their site. We All have DD but no one has gotten deposits if you are not filing taxes. So which is it. The lying director who has stated soon 3 times in last 10 days? There is zero info other then what was supposed to be and actually is. Checks being sent out before SSA that already have DD??

      • Karen Y.

Yes, he has lied to us many times, saying our SSD checks went out to be deposited. Then we call our bank. NOTHING.

  9. kary j.

I am on SSDI and VA disability and still no deposit. I have had DD for both to the same bank for over 6 years. Can someone please explain to me why the most vulnerable of the population can not get their stimulus? Or are getting theirs last? Ours should have been sent out first. I know it’s a different system and yes there are limited resources to get this done. But the last time I checked computer programs can talk to each other. And even worse we can’t even get an answer on when we MIGHT receive the deposit. We can’t call anyone to ask any questions even. Yes i have an income but I still support a dependent that I can not claim with mental illness. He by the way is being MAILED a check before I have even gotten a heads up. His will go towards meds and counseling.

    • Karen Y.

Thank you Kary. We are the last people. I also have received so many different stories about when we will get our stimulus check. Only not to receive it.

    • Roger B.

You will receive your money on your usual pay day either the 1st or 3rd of May.Keep watching all the info available concerning ssa or ssi or ssdi. And you will find what I just commented to you.Good luck and best wishes..

    • Dave

You will get it. I am in California and people have already received theirs. I believe SSI beneficiaries will start receiving their deposits starting around may 1st or may 5th. Of course we never really know with our government. I don’t doubt that you will get it so just keep checking for updates and check your bank activity more.

  10. Lil

If your disabled and over 17 u zhould be getting your own SSDI check. Do u get welfare??? If so you will get a check.
