Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul
Reading Time: 2 MinutesLast Updated: March 17, 2021
Social Security beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department soon. People receiving benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Payment Info Here section to provide their information.
Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries with dependent children and who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Wednesday, April 22, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly. SSI recipients need to take this action by later this month; a specific date will be available soon.
By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If beneficiaries in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200. People would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.
I urge Social Security and SSI recipients with qualifying children who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.
Action Needed for Social Security Beneficiaries with Dependents and Who Do Not File Tax Returns to Receive $500 Per Child Payment
People with Direct Express debit cards who enter information at the IRS’s website should complete all of the mandatory questions, but they may leave the bank account information section blank as Treasury already has their Direct Express information on file.
Additionally, any new beneficiaries since January 1, 2020, of either Social Security or SSI benefits, who did not file a tax return for 2018 or 2019, will also need to go to the IRS’s Non-Filers website to enter their information as they will not receive automatic payments from Treasury.

Well I don’t understand what they are trying to about these payments. I really don’t think they know what they are doing anyway. All the SSI and other government income should have already received the payment when they said first payment would go to 80 million people but when that happened they only gave out about 1.6 million and those people were either recieving to much or not enough.. they don’t know what to do about the homeless or low-income. Heck I only made 278.00 for the hole 2019 year for me and my wife we live in a storage shed 35 miles from the closest town. I’ve tried to file 6 times to change address and bank info because the info they have is 4 years old . And it keeps being rejected due ip pin that it’s has sent me but I have never received any thing from the IRS. Get one online they said but when try they want verify your I’d and in order to receive a one pin but they want a credit number, auto loan, mortgage loan acc or house loan acc #. Hell I can’t even afford to eat let alone that stuff so it rejects me . Now they want me to file a form from there website and send it of to them and they will send the pin in the mail in 6 to weeks. All good if something is open to get it printed out. 5hey starving people to death . Bbut just heard on the news that they give the airports millions of dollars by the end of the week sad my God bless us all.

What can I do if I have attempted to insert my direct deposit yet haven’t been able because the IRS website stated it has technical difficulties?

Hi Patricia, thank you for your question. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

Hi, Kim. Recipients of Supplemental Security Income will get an economic impact payment. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making direct payments to eligible people. Continue to check the Internal Revenue Service Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page for updates. Thanks.

I receive SS retirement but still work. I haven’t received an IRS refund in years–I always owe them. I get my SS via direct deposit. Does anyone know how I’ll get my stimulus? Di I have to do anything?
GREG

When this all started and the IRS said people on SSI had to file a short tax return and then launched the non filers site , I got right on and filed , because I have a direct express card for my benifits ( and they still were saying they were not going to use them for this payment), and no bank account, I opened a bank account and provided the IRS that direct deposit info on my non filers return. My question is will this causey payment to be late? And where will it go? My new capital one account that I have tomthe it’s for direct deposit? Or my direct express card ? I ask because I know 3 people on SSI who got the payment today.
Any ideas would be welcome
Mike

Hi, JP. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making direct payments to eligible people. We cannot determine your eligibility. Continue to check the Internal Revenue Service Coronavirus Tax Relief and Economic Impact Payments page for updates. Thanks.

I get SSDI and ssi for 20+ years. Before we where told to claim or dependents I went and filed my wife and 3 kids on turbo tax and used my chime card for the stimulus deposit. This is was on April 6th before it’s had there’s set up with e-file. My wife has never filed taxes in her life she’s on welfare. Today I got a deposit for 2400 on my chime card from irs. Shocking right. No money for my 3 kids though. My guess is that when I filed for her without me included the it’s seen we where married and have me my half. Kids will no doubt be a paper check as that is happening to ppl who file taxes. I’m ok with that. System is super flawed in how they are sending these check as mine should have been sent to my checking account with wells Fargo. It’s not joint with the with only me as I had issues in the past. She has no bank account as all her money is on the snap card. That’s why I used my chime card for her and the kids to stay separate from me as to not mess anything up. Few days later is when SSI and others where told to use irs portal for claiming dependents. So with that being said I’m on SSDI and SSI and basically was grouped together with my wife when I filed on TurboTax on April 6th but no money for kids as now I’m in the boat with that whole mess like many others. Take this however as the system s very backwards. Ty and also I seen alotta trolls on here so I’m telling you I’m not one of them I’m here just to see what’s going on for me and to possibly shine some light for others. Ty
