I want you to hear directly from me how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting our services. The first thing you should know is that we continue to pay benefits. Be aware that scammers may try to trick you into thinking the pandemic is stopping your Social Security payments but that is not true. Don’t be fooled.

To protect you and help stop the spread of this coronavirus, we cannot accept visitors in our offices at this time. There are several other ways you can get help. Many services are available online. If you have a critical need that you cannot address online, we can help you over the phone.

Please visit our website to find out what services we are continuing and which ones we are suspending, how to contact us, and important information about deadlines we are extending to ease the burden on you and medical providers during this pandemic.

Can I collect unemployment while collecting SSDI and will it affect my income I can make each month?

    • V.V.

Hi David, thank you for your question. Unemployment benefits do not affect or reduce Social Security retirement and disability benefits. State unemployment compensation payments are not wages because they are paid due to unemployment rather than employment. However, income from Social Security may reduce your unemployment compensation. Contact your state unemployment office for information on how your state applies the reduction.

If you’re receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), unemployment insurance benefits are considered unearned income. If you, your spouse, or a child living in your household have any income other than your Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment, including unemployment insurance benefits, you must tell us.

To learn more about SSI and how income affects your payment, read What You Need to Know When You Get Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

    • V.V.

Lisa, we apologize for the inconvenience. For security reasons, we do not have access to information about your Social Security card application in this venue. Typically, after we receive the application and verify the documents, you can expect to receive the card in the mail within 10 – 14 business days. Unfortunately, if you have not received the card by then, you will need to call the office where you filed your application. For your local office telephone number, look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. Please be aware that our call wait times are longer than normal. We hope this information helps.

Why have I not received a stimulus check? Social security has all direct deposit info and I was just wondering since all other family members had already received theirs. Sadranch79525@yahoo.com

To whom it may concern; I am in a dire situation. I have been permanently disabled since 1996, I use to get over $850.00 per month. Now, I get $700.50. In addition, the Maryland Social Services office of Charles County denid my Medicaid stating that I was working. I have not worked since 2005. They got me and another person’s file combined and I can not get them to understand this. I have never been denied Medicaid in any state that I have every lived in. I have no food stamps, and am sleeping on the couch of a friend. I requested a hearing regarding the Medicaid but never received any notice by mail, phone, text, or email. They have violated my constitutional rights. I, also, as of today, May 17, 2020, have NOT received a stimulus check. Why am I not included? I am in desperate need of help.

It is truly disgusting that the SSA securitizes me as surety but only wants to offer $745 to me per month when I retire? So that means I can live in a cardboard box when I retire. Who gets all that money that shows up on Fidelity when I search my SSA#? Thank for for eating up my money in this ponsi scheme I was forced into.
