" "Sometimes it’s confusing to know who to contact and for what. Social Security and Medicare offer related services, so people aren’t always certain who does what. This “cheat sheet” can help.

Contact Social Security to:

  • Create a my Social Security account to do things like request a replacement Medicare card and report a change of address, name, or phone number;
  • Sign up for Medicare Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance);
  • Apply for Extra Help with Medicare prescription drug coverage (Part D) costs;
  • Report a death; and
  • Appeal an Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount (IRMAA) decision (for people who pay a higher Part B and/or Part D premium if their income is over a certain amount).

Find information on how to do all of this and more on Social Security’s Medicare website.

    I am turning 65 in August but I plan to work for another two years. My place of employment has health care provided for employees which I have been on for the last 3 or 4 years. I would like to keep that and just apply for Part A Medicare. How would I go about doing this?

    I’ve been trying to apply for my medicare part B since aug. My husband has retired. And i thought i would be covered since I’ve been disabled since 1992, but because i can not prove i had ins. Under my husbands job fron1992 thru 1999, they will not let me have it until july of 2020. I can prove I’ve been covered for the last 20 years. However no one has to keep this info for 27 years not even the IRS so why am i being punished when even our government is not required to keep this info?.
