Update on Our Reentry Plans
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: December 22, 2021
We want to give you an update on our preparations for returning our employees to local Social Security offices, a process called reentry.
You may have seen a proposed reentry date of January 3, 2022 in the draft reentry plan that we provided to our unions, or in the media. While some executives reentered on December 1, we have not set a reentry date for the rest of the agency.
The best way to reach us is online at SSA.gov, or by calling our National 800 Number or a local Social Security office. At this time, please remember that we can only provide in-person service by appointment only for limited, critical issues. And we continue to hold voluntary hearings by online video and phone. We are taking steps to increase in-person help for people unable to complete their business online or by phone.
We will keep you updated on our reentry process.

According to that streamlined waiver, that Social Security created, specifically for the pandemic period of March 2020 to September 2020; the pandemic ended way back then AND they also reopened their offices AND returned to work. The waiver was created August 2020. Since social security says they are always right even when they are wrong… where does that make this latest notice fit in?

My wife needs to begin Medicare on Feb. 1, 2022. She has scheduled surgery in Feb. She does not have enough units to apply on here own, therefore she will apply under my Medicare. We are unable to do her application on line. We contacted the local regional office in Toledo and the soonest phone meeting with them is scheduled for Feb. 15. This is not soon enough and will require her to reschedule her surgery. This is not a good option we need to have her enrolled by Feb. 1 so that her surgery is not delayed. Please help.

Call another field office. It’s a federal agency. Any office in the United States can do it over the phone. Just ask the phone rep to find a office with an earlier appointment.

Medicare is individual insurance, so spouses cannot be on the same Medicare plan together. Now, if your spouse is eligible for Medicare, then he or she can get their own Medicare plan. Visit Medicare.gov

In a couple of months I will have been divorced for two years and unable to change my name at Social Security. I was told I had to send in my passport and an original copy of the divorce decree. I said I didn’t feel comfortable doing that and your employee agreed that she wouldn’t do it either. Since I’m on Medicare none of my medical information is in my correct name because I can’t get my Social Security information changed. When my license and my insurance information don’t match it causes problems every time I go to a new doctor. My local office has never offered in person appointments for “limited, critical “ reasons. I have a drivers license that I had to go through the whole real ID process to get it. They require much more than Social Security does but that still isn’t enough for me to get a name change with you. Ridiculous choices.
Elisabeth
I am in a similar situation with needing to change my name for the past year and a half. I also didn’t feel comfortable mailing in my documents and said I’d be happy to provide them in person if I could have an appointment but was told that I didn’t qualify for an appointment. I asked if they would make an online option available for name changes and was told that they were working on it over a year ago. Even more recently, I called back a few months ago to say I had the vaccine and was willing to provide proof in order to have an in person appointment and was still told that wasn’t an option. This agency has done absolutely nothing to accommodate people and has just used the pandemic as an excuse to take practically two years off work. Meanwhile those of us that have mismatched documents (that we only have in the first place because of the dumbass government) have to deal with the constant frustrations and issues.

I work at FO we have secure drop off boxes for people not wanting to mail their documents. Granted, depending on the document it might be mailed back to you via Postal service. We do this every day.

I also had to change my name due to divorce. I sent my final divorce decree and a copy of my driver’s license with my new name and after about 2 weeks I received my dicorce decree back in the mail.and about 7 business day later I received my new SS card.
