Social Security Administration LogoWe want to give you an update on our preparations for returning our employees to local Social Security offices, a process called reentry.

You may have seen a proposed reentry date of January 3, 2022 in the draft reentry plan that we provided to our unions, or in the media. While some executives reentered on December 1, we have not set a reentry date for the rest of the agency.

The best way to reach us is online at SSA.gov, or by calling our National 800 Number or a local Social Security office. At this time, please remember that we can only provide in-person service by appointment only for limited, critical issues. And we continue to hold voluntary hearings by online video and phone. We are taking steps to increase in-person help for people unable to complete their business online or by phone.

We will keep you updated on our reentry process.

I have tried to call 8 different times today, and I waited on hold for quite a while, then the phone rings and you can tell someone picks up and disconnects.
My purpose for writing is to tell you how frustrating that is when I have to talk to SS, but no one will talk to you, even after you wait on hold 47 minutes or more, only to be disconnected.
GET YOUR STAFF BACK TO THE OFFICES!

I have tried to contact the office in Naples, Italy. I sent a message in December and have not received a response. I am trying to explain my wifes situation. She does not have a SSN nor will she ever have one because she is NOT a citizen, nor is she ever going to be a Resident. BUT, as i am retired military, i need to get her medical coverage through TRICARE/DEERS but she first has to have a DISAPPROVAL LETTER from SOCIAL SECURITY. I cannot even contact anyone because everytime i try, they want HER SSN which she DOES NOT HAVE… can anyone help?

Where do I mail my birth certificate and W-2 form? Also, since I didn’t work last year I do not have a W-2 form, only Form 1099-R. Will that work for retirement benefits application?

    Hi,
Can someone tell me how long it will take for someone to decide my case? I cannot get through to my local office.

    • Pounce

Hi Nat, time varies depending on the caseload of the various offices. It also depends upon what stage of the process you are at and what your conditions are, how cooperative your providers are with responding to SSA requests, etc.

There is absolutely no reason for anyone to be rude. if you were going to be rude because there were questions asked or that we didn’t want to MAIL our ORIGINAL SS card in then do not answer the phone. Brenham Tx 1/18/2022. I do not get it. if people are getting married and need to change their name..who is dumb enough to mail in your original? you shouldn’t even be putting that number on paperwork to mail in. Makes no sense. I have worked this whole pandemic with people in and out of my office. I do not see why 1/2 cant go in for appts and then other half next day. this is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. do you have an easier way to do this process? without sending in Original SS card and Marriage license. makes no sense. I personally know someone who did and has yet to receive it back after 1-1/2 years. crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
