Update on Our Reentry Plans

Social Security Administration LogoWe want to give you an update on our preparations for returning our employees to local Social Security offices, a process called reentry.

You may have seen a proposed reentry date of January 3, 2022 in the draft reentry plan that we provided to our unions, or in the media. While some executives reentered on December 1, we have not set a reentry date for the rest of the agency.

The best way to reach us is online at SSA.gov, or by calling our National 800 Number or a local Social Security office. At this time, please remember that we can only provide in-person service by appointment only for limited, critical issues. And we continue to hold voluntary hearings by online video and phone. We are taking steps to increase in-person help for people unable to complete their business online or by phone.

We will keep you updated on our reentry process.

    I am a United States citizen and I was denied Social Security because Social Security office does not have my citizenship information. How can I provide my citizenship information given that you have been closed for almost two years? Could someone please kindly read these reviews and see how citizens have been frustrated by Social Security employees? I’ve tried to reach a live employee by phone only to be placed on hold for over an hour, but still to no avail. Please kindly help us in the “Mighty Name of Jesus.” We are human beings and not animals. Thank you.

      We are in the same boat. Have been trying to update my husband’s account for his change in citizenship status for almost 2 years now. We were told over and over again at his immigration ceremony how important this change was to do yet there is not option to do so anymore. I had one women on the phone who told me that we could try just sending in his original citizenship document but that she couldn’t guarantee it wouldn’t be lost or misplaced and she didn’t recommend it. So what are we supposed to do?

    I cannot understand why SS offices cannot open. The number of people waiting can be limited and appointments can be used. The entire world is open. These offices are necessary.

    It is wonderful that some executives have decided to come in, but how does that help ordinary people? I can only assume it has to do with with a union.

    Your offices provide critical services and need to be open – all of them. Medicare can’t seem to understand that they need to send a correct amount to my bank so that my bank will make the correct electronic payment every month, with the new increases for 2022! I have never had this problem with electronic payments with anyone else in my 20 years of doing electronic payments! Medicare has to send CORRECT info to my bank and it isn’t. And there should be an SSA office that is less than an hour from my home that I can access by public transportation if necessary.

    I have been trying to get disability since February 2020 and I am stilling waiting. The last communication I had with my
    local office ( Ft. Worth, TX) was in September 2021. I ended up sending a congressional inquiry request form to my Congressional office. I have not heard anything from the SSA since. I have called all the phone numbers, waited on hold for up to one hour etc… still nothing. Good luck all!
    This is what we pay our congress to do. NOT MUCH.

      1. SSA will not hold in person hearings anytime soon. 2. Send a letter agreeing to a phone hearing if you wish to move the case, otherwise they will not schedule your hearing. 3. May want to get a rep to assist you.

    I have been trying for months to get my 16yr old’s social security card so we can get her driver’s license. It is extremely frustrating and unreasonable for you all to expect us to be comfortable sending ORIGINAL documents in the mail where things get lost everyday. The documents i have sent were not sufficient enough and it would be very helpful to have had a live person in front of me explaining why. Every other business on this earth has reopened.

    I applied for retirement as a spouse of a SSA retirement recipient almost two months ago. I haven’t received a response. Not even a request for additional info if necessary.

We ask that members in our Blog community work with our offices with specific questions. You can call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for assistance. Generally, you will have a shorter wait if you call later in the day. You can also contact your local Social Security office. We hope this helps.

    It doesn’t help when our local office refuses to answer the phone or return calls. thousands are being denied service due to this. If you call the next closest office, you are told too bad, they can’t help as we are not in their district. So if you have to get things done, shit outta luck.

      I receive ssi for my disability from domestic violence and abuse from my 2 x husbands (PTSD) both x husbands I was married to for 10 + years I want to if I am untitled to their retirement $ and or their assets honestly, I know that I am for sure to their $ and assest

We are sorry to hear that. To be eligible for divorced spouse benefits, you had to be married to your former spouse for at least 10 years, be age 62, and you cannot be eligible for a higher benefit on your own record.     I tried for 3 days to reach 3 different locations. I was on line a total of 3.5 hours between all three and never did get anyone to answer.

    This is extremely poor management considering you are being paid by the taxpayer…

    Everyone has a high degree of exposure to the virus….do the best to protect your employees but also provide service to your customers…
