Social Security Administration LogoWe want to give you an update on our preparations for returning our employees to local Social Security offices, a process called reentry.

You may have seen a proposed reentry date of January 3, 2022 in the draft reentry plan that we provided to our unions, or in the media. While some executives reentered on December 1, we have not set a reentry date for the rest of the agency.

The best way to reach us is online at SSA.gov, or by calling our National 800 Number or a local Social Security office. At this time, please remember that we can only provide in-person service by appointment only for limited, critical issues. And we continue to hold voluntary hearings by online video and phone. We are taking steps to increase in-person help for people unable to complete their business online or by phone.

We will keep you updated on our reentry process.

We are confused and uncertain about our next step. I am just now eligible for my full retirement benefits. I was told to submit my application and that once I was officially approved that my husband should then submit his application for Spousal benefits. I was approved on January 4th. We faxed his application to our local office and also mailed it certified return receipt. My husband has been receiving his own lower benefit for the last 5 years. In his SSA online account there is no notation with Step 1 acknowledging receipt of his application. I have left several messages for my rep at our local office but she has not returned my call. Do we need to do anything else? How will we know that his application is being processed? Thanks

Hi, Wendy. For your husband’s security, we do not have access to private information in this venue. We ask that members in our Blog community work with our offices with specific questions. He call us at 1-800-772-1213, Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., for assistance. Generally, he will have a shorter wait if he calls later in the day. He can also contact his local Social Security office. He can ask to speak to a supervisor on his next call. We hope this helps.

I received the FIRST and the THIRD Covid relief checks. But I did not receive the SECOND. I believe it was for $600 according to friends and neighbors. I lost my job early during Covid and have not been able to return to work because I fell and shattered my hip and can no longer do stairs. I am a Type 1 Insulin Dependent Diabetic and my expenses are huge. Any help you can provide to help me recover the second check would be greatly appreciated.

I am attempting to get an replacement social security number online, as I do not want to go into my local office for several reasons. I have input all of my correct information and when I get to the address to verify, it keeps saying it is incorrect.I cannot fit full address into line 1, I’ve tried several different ways and it is still saying it is wrong. Now when I login, it won’t let me try at all. It keeps saying come back after a certain date but I did and the message is still there!

You must use the address as it is on your ID

I have been dealing with Social Security for about 8 years. I was denied disability payments but was given access to Medicare, which I am grateful but I pay $555 a month for United Heath Care Supplement. I have prescriptions every month that run me over $600. I went back to work to try to make money to pay these two bills, I am applying again and trying to just get regular Social Security because I am disabled. Working is hard for me, but I go every day, Last time I had to complete all of this paperwork I had a nervous breakdown. Praying this time I can get my ow SS check or pull from mu Husbands Social Security check, I am 62 and struggling.

    • Ann C.

Hi, Mona. We are sorry to hear about your situation. You may be eligible to receive social services from the state in which you live. These services include free meals, housekeeping help, transportation, or help with other problems. To get information about services in your area and find out if you qualify, you will need to contact your state or local social services or welfare office. We hope this helps.

In the mean time I have creditors calling. I owe both State and Federal taxes. The New Year kicked in, so I am not going to be able to afford Dr appts or Medications. Where is my case?

The COLA raise has been nothing short of a nightmare!! We have lost all the extra help with prescriptions and part B help! We are LOSING $300 a month besides no help with prescriptions! Part D coverage is NO use when you can’t pay full price, then hit the gap! Come on!!! Do something to help!

  9. Celeste B.

I withdrew my application for benefits in March 2021. I was within the time limit to withdrawal.
Social Security paid twice on my account which was less than 200 dollars for each month. They paid me once under my Husbands Social Security with a check. I did not cash the check because they then sent me a letter stating I did not qualify for my husbands benefits since he still was working.
I have been for months calling my Local Social Security Office to pay back everything that was sent tome. They told me to wait for a form from the Main Office.

I waited for months and nothing. Then finally got a letter telling me to send back the full amount. They had the envelope enclosed and I sent a Check in July. It was never cashed!
By October I get another Notice that I must pay back my husbands payment by January 26th 2022. This letter gives me a payment form which the other did not.
Again phone calls. No one knows where my check is at.

My local office tells me to wait as most workers at working from home because of Covid.

By the End of November I hear nothing so I call the number on the payment form and talked with a women there. She looked up my account and saw nothing was recorded for the 1200 payback I sent. She also said after 90 days my check would be no good. So I told her I wanted to pay everything Via Credit Card in full.
She tried to do that but the system would only allow payment for the higher amount which was under my husbands Social Security. So I paid that.
She told to wait to see if I get a form asking for the balance.
Today January 8,2022 I get Social Security earnings tax forms.
One for the small amount paid to me
and one that was based on my husbands .
Well the payment I made in November is not even reflected on the tax form- which does have a box(4) stating Benifits repaid. It’s states None.
But I have proof that the money was withdrawn from Social Security for that amount from My Credit Card in November.
Now I have to find the right person to correct it.
It is not even listed on my Social Security Account online that it was paid.

This Agency is driving me crazy with the lack of correcting matters. They have no problem sending letters requesting money back and when you send it No one processes it right!

People have dropped off letters in your mailbox. Falsified information. Or signature on letters trying to stop others from getting what rightfully their. Out jealousy. People don’t know what going on with someone else. Let doctors and professionals do their jobs.
