Social Security Administration LogoWe want to give you an update on our preparations for returning our employees to local Social Security offices, a process called reentry.

You may have seen a proposed reentry date of January 3, 2022 in the draft reentry plan that we provided to our unions, or in the media. While some executives reentered on December 1, we have not set a reentry date for the rest of the agency.

The best way to reach us is online at SSA.gov, or by calling our National 800 Number or a local Social Security office. At this time, please remember that we can only provide in-person service by appointment only for limited, critical issues. And we continue to hold voluntary hearings by online video and phone. We are taking steps to increase in-person help for people unable to complete their business online or by phone.

We will keep you updated on our reentry process.

Someone stole my wallet several years ago. I did not find out until many years later, when my bank stated someone else had the same Soc Sec number as me. I do not know what my Soc Sec information was used or if it is yet being used.

    What should I do???

    • A.C.

Hi, Barbara. We’re sorry to hear you’re having this problem. Victims of identity theft should go to http://www.idtheft.gov and report the theft to the Federal Trade Commission or call 1-877-IDTHEFT (1-877-438-4338). If you suspect that someone is using you Social Security number, please check out our publication, Identity Theft and Your Social Security Number, for more information. We hope this helps.

Still trying to sign into the “MY Social Security account which I’ve had for at least 10+ years. You post the password, etc. that I’m supposed to use , then say it’s not correct when I try to log in! And of course, I can’t change it or open a new account. With the way government is “working” since the last election, you have American taxpayers pretty upset.

Thank you for making the password reset process easy. I hadn’t been able to access my account for a while. The new online security process made it really easy.
I’m glad to be back on my account.
    Thanks again!

I have filled out the form W-4V to have taxes held out of my Social Security check. The in striations say to return the completed form to the local office. Do I have to make an appointment to turn this form in?

  9. Louise H.

My husband passed away the end of September 2021. I have been trying to apply for survivors benefits since then. In October I was told there was a 2 month waiting list for an appointment, I called the office in Nassau County several times and still can not get an appointment. I also sent them the forms and documents in hope of hearing from them sooner, but I still have not received any response. What else can I do to get what I am entitled to.
