Update on Our Reentry Plans
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: December 22, 2021
We want to give you an update on our preparations for returning our employees to local Social Security offices, a process called reentry.
You may have seen a proposed reentry date of January 3, 2022 in the draft reentry plan that we provided to our unions, or in the media. While some executives reentered on December 1, we have not set a reentry date for the rest of the agency.
The best way to reach us is online at SSA.gov, or by calling our National 800 Number or a local Social Security office. At this time, please remember that we can only provide in-person service by appointment only for limited, critical issues. And we continue to hold voluntary hearings by online video and phone. We are taking steps to increase in-person help for people unable to complete their business online or by phone.
We will keep you updated on our reentry process.

My MAGI is clearly wrong. As a consequence, my medicare and prescription drug taxes were raised. Please schedule an in-person appointment at my Dallas SSA office to go over the SSA and IRS correspondence.
V.V.
Hi Raymond, thank you for using our blog. To determine if you’ll pay higher premiums, Social Security uses the most recent federal tax return the IRS provides to us. If you must pay higher premiums, we use a sliding scale to make the adjustments, based on your modified adjusted gross income (MAGI). Your MAGI is your total adjusted gross income and tax-exempt interest income.
For details regarding an appeal, check out the factsheet: What You Can Do if You Think Your Medicare Income-Related Premium is Incorrect.
To report a Medicare Income-Related Monthly Adjustment Amount Life-Changing Event, complete and return the form to your local Social Security office.

I applied for spousal benefits 10/28/21 and provided the paperwork requested the next day. Was told I’d begin benefits 12/08/21. Have called twice. Went through the holidays destitute, still no progress on my case. Desperate in Massachusetts.

Just curious as if how is an opportune time to send the application for a name change with my state legal name change and documents via mail or if in person will be the only option or safest option for something like that? Should I wait? I have been waiting for about a year and a half now. Have all the docs ready just hesitant to mail original copies out especially with how strained the mail services are around the holidays/winter storms. Can you drop documents off in person without a meeting?
V.V.
Hi Cris, thanks for using our blog. Check out our Social Security and Coronavirus web page for details on options for submitting documents. We hope this helps.

I started the online application back on 09/14/21 for SS retirement benefits but did not submit the app after reading information that told me if I wait until Jan 2021 then it would give me a higher $ amount. So I waited till now, and when I go back online for the application, it shows I have not submitted the one that I started on Sept 2021. How can I remove that September application and start a new one, now that it is January 2022?
V.V.
Hi Kevin, thanks for using our blog. Use the application that you started earlier and just adjust the date that you want to begin receiving benefits. If you continue to have difficulties, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 where we have representatives available from 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. business days.
