Social Security Administration LogoWe want to give you an update on our preparations for returning our employees to local Social Security offices, a process called reentry.

You may have seen a proposed reentry date of January 3, 2022 in the draft reentry plan that we provided to our unions, or in the media. While some executives reentered on December 1, we have not set a reentry date for the rest of the agency.

The best way to reach us is online at SSA.gov, or by calling our National 800 Number or a local Social Security office. At this time, please remember that we can only provide in-person service by appointment only for limited, critical issues. And we continue to hold voluntary hearings by online video and phone. We are taking steps to increase in-person help for people unable to complete their business online or by phone.

We will keep you updated on our reentry process.

I signed up for Social Security monthly benefits in July, 2021 and began to receive in Sept, 2021. However, in August, I was asked to come back to work as a Pensioner and contacted SS to ask how I cancel my social security. They said to file a SSA-521 and mail it in. It was received at their office on 26-Aug in Hamilton and checked; still wtg processing at Hamilton. I have not been able to reach anyone at that office and no one other offices are able to help me. How can I get this form processed and these payments stopped?

I applied for retirement October of last year. I am 75 years old at nearest birthday.I received a letter Nov.10, 2021 telling me to call within ten days otherwise my application will not be processed. However, I got hold of the letter only in December. So what do I do now? Should I file on line again?

    • V.V.

Hi, I recently become a U.S Citizen and I would like to update my social security status , and I would like to know how is the process since the office near me is closed?

    • V.V.

Thank you for your question, Isnel, and for reading our blog. Congratulations on becoming a U.S. citizen. You cannot update citizenship status with Social Security online. You will need to update your Social Security record by showing us your Certificate of Naturalization and completing an application for a corrected Social Security card. All submitted documents must be either originals or certified copies by the issuing agency. We cannot accept photocopies or notarized copies of documents. Please visit our Social Security and Coronavirus web page.

We offer additional options for submitting documents, including Express Interviews by appointment, and Drop Boxes, where available. Please call your local Social Security office if you would like to drop off your evidence or if you think you may qualify for an in-person appointment. You’ll find your local office contact information by using our online Social Security Office Locator. Please note that appointments may not be immediately available, depending on local health and safety conditions and staffing.

My mom applied for social security retirement benefits since Oct 2021 and it was assigned to Richmond office but its has been 3 mos and until now it is still 2 of 3 from the review process. We tried to call the Office but after waiting for an hour the call just disconnects by itself. I wonder if it really takes this long? Thank you

    • V.V.

Hi Cecile, thanks for using our blog. Your mom should call us at 1-800-772-1213 where we have representatives available from 8:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. business days. We already called the 800 number and we were told that they see the same information that we see online pending 2 of 3 and we should wait for a letter. My mom works and i am the one who can call from my work just to follow up and not to get info from
them, today i just tried to get her an appt at the local office to get it over with bec it has been 3 mos wait and the representative said she cannot give her an appt unless she is here to authorize and she needes to review her acct. I am already telling her the reason and she cannot give her an appt ?

Hi Julierae, thank you for your question. Social Security has special rules that make it possible for people with disabilities receiving Social Security Disability (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) to work and still receive monthly payments. These are called work incentives. agen sbobet88

I am trying to help an elderly uncle change his direct deposit soc sec check from US bank to his bank in Egypt. Can he do that online? What info does he need? Swift code for the Egypt bank? or IBAN? There is no “how to” steps online, just check to see if your country has an agreement with USA.

    • V.V.

Hi, Eileen, and thank you for your question about International Direct Deposit. To start the IDD enrollment process, select and print the appropriate SSA-1199 form. (It’s based on the country.) Fill out sections 1 and 2. Have your financial institution fill out section 3. Mail the completed form to the appropriate Federal Benefits Unit indicated on the form. We hope this helps.
