Social Security Administration LogoWe want to give you an update on our preparations for returning our employees to local Social Security offices, a process called reentry.

You may have seen a proposed reentry date of January 3, 2022 in the draft reentry plan that we provided to our unions, or in the media. While some executives reentered on December 1, we have not set a reentry date for the rest of the agency.

The best way to reach us is online at SSA.gov, or by calling our National 800 Number or a local Social Security office. At this time, please remember that we can only provide in-person service by appointment only for limited, critical issues. And we continue to hold voluntary hearings by online video and phone. We are taking steps to increase in-person help for people unable to complete their business online or by phone.

We will keep you updated on our reentry process.

I am so sorry you are going through such an ordeal. I had to fight with SS for 4 years before they finally approved my disability.

    • Vonda

Pamela, we are sorry to hear about your disability. If you were recently denied, you may file an appeal within 60 days of receiving the decision and provide additional evidence.

If you need help requesting an appeal, you can call us at 1-800-772-1213 for assistance or contact your local Social Security office. Look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information.

Some individuals may be eligible to receive additional assistance from the state where they live; while they wait for a final determination on their disability claim. These services include Medicaid, free meals, housekeeping help, transportation or help with other problems. You can get information about services in your area from your state or local social services office. You can also visit the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services web page for more information. We hope this information is helpful!

I applied for my retirement benefits on Oct. 6, 2021. Standard no frills application. It was flagged. It is now Jan 3rd, 2022, and I have yet to get an email or phone call to clear this up. I am now owed 3 months so far of my retirement money. Calls to the 800 number or my local office are useless. They can’t or won’t do anything. Only Baltimore office. What a joke.
Going to reach out to this areas federal congress rep, see if he is as useless as rest of this bunch. Where else do you turn to get your money you worked your life for.

    • Vonda

Hi Lynn. We apologize for the delay and inconveniences you are experiencing. Unfortunately, but for security reasons, we do not have access to personal records in this blog. Please continue working with your local office. You can request to speak with the manager to see how we can help to expedite resolution of your situation. Disappointed to the announcement. Why not just stop collecting social security tax due to Wuhan virus? If it is not happening, what on earth the office need to close coz it really affect the BAU of most of the people.

Sounds like the social security department does not have their act together. I realize with the pandemic there are difficulties in areas of service. Still important to find better ideas and ways to deal with clients issues.
Look at it as a doctor or nurse would, if help is needed find an answer even if a temporary or partial assistance. You cannot just put off or no address health issues, nor should people be put off for issues of homelessness or medical expenses. Prioritize your cases and bring in even temporary help if staff overwhelmed. It could each and everyone of you in these “cases” situations. Start being more sympathetic not just a robot attitude. It’s people helping people that’s what every job is, if more people would realize that aspect the world could be a better place. Give it a thought.

I’ve been waiting since July 7th and its still in the determination stage for my ssi app because I have cancer! They have everything on medical how much longer do I have to wait?My bills are building up and I’m unable to pay them🥺😥🥺!

My friend is going to lose her housing because the offices are closed. She needs a current income verification but couldn’t remember her password upon login and was told that it would take 5 to 10 days to mail her a new one so she could get online and use the online services. Losing her rental opportunity. When we finally got someone on the line to issue a new income verification all they did was send us the old one from November. You’re hurting people, my friend is homeless. I found a home for her and now because of the Social Security department not being open and not being easily accessible she will continue to be homeless in January

      • Lucie A.

I know and I am still waiting.

    • Vonda

Hi Kimberly, thanks for reaching out. You can call your local Social Security office for a status update. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information.

They need to get back to work in the office. They can’t be scared to work. If they are ok with going out and buying food. It’s time to get back to work. We need to be able to go to the office to get stuff done. Not everyone can mail our ID’s in. Then how do we drive. We the people have the right to get a new card without all this.

  10. Robyn S.

Will it still be soon though? Ive been waiting for my sons ssi for the past 7 months calling every week to see if we can get it reapplied, because we were denied in his medical update that occurs every 2 years, but he is Autistic and 18 years old he needs it. All because he hasnt had any medical updates recently. HE IS AUTISTIC. Thats not gonna change. Its been a long and hard struggle I just need help.

    • Brian D.

That is wording of them absolutely insane to wait that long. They use our money and hold it hostage when it’s our money and you have to pull teeth to get your benefits and they find little ways to not give you what you actually deserve it. They also want us to take a survey at the end of the call. No thanks. Not worth my tax paid dollars to give you my opinion of SSA when your cheap and just don’t want to give people their money they deserve. Remember this is our or the citizens working money. Ok. We pay SsA to work and they don’t.

    • Gee d.

And there attitudes are disgusting. If I ever come across another little stuck up disgusting person I’m going to knock their teeth out literally and it’ll really do it and not worry about being arrested it’ll give me pleasure to know I knocked out an SSA bad mouther

      • Lucie A.

Be careful that you don’t threaten any federal worker. It is a federal offense and it will get your barred from Social Security and you won’t be able to go into any SS Office.
Only your attorney if you have one.
