Update on Our Reentry Plans

We want to give you an update on our preparations for returning our employees to local Social Security offices, a process called reentry.
You may have seen a proposed reentry date of January 3, 2022 in the draft reentry plan that we provided to our unions, or in the media. While some executives reentered on December 1, we have not set a reentry date for the rest of the agency.
The best way to reach us is online at SSA.gov, or by calling our National 800 Number or a local Social Security office. At this time, please remember that we can only provide in-person service by appointment only for limited, critical issues. And we continue to hold voluntary hearings by online video and phone. We are taking steps to increase in-person help for people unable to complete their business online or by phone.

I received a notice about a SS change and immediately checked on the online site. I copied the new benefit verification letter which explained the current benefit and compared it to the past benefit.
Thanks for the immediate (automated) response. The system worked for my needs.

The system seems broken. Wish we would’ve noticed it when we were young. I ignored old people problems when I was young. Now, here I am. Here you are. Heads up! If you’re young and you’re here and see these comments do something to fix this mess. You might end up here someday.

You don’t have to be young to fix the system. You can do something besides just tell the youth to fix it. That is exactly why it’s still broken, we wait for someone else to notice and fix it when we should be checking into what we can do to be the catalyst for change. Even if it’s making phone calls, writing letters, starting an online group, etc. You keep doing it until whatever it is gets changed or you die trying! Find a group of people that want to fix the same problem and brainstorm ways to fix it. We can’t keep passing the buck hoping someone else will come up with a solution. I am guilty of this too but several years ago, I found that we all have a voice and skills that can initiate fixing the problems of our world. We owe it to the youth to show them how we can come together and get things done to repair things, not leave them problems that past generations and ours caused in the first place. Otherwise, they are going to do nothing just like we did.

The SSA employees that you speak to over the phone are the same employees that you would be speaking to in the office. Same people same service. The difference is no crowded lobby, no looking for a parking spot, and privacy.

Yea I have call them to change my phone number so I could get into my account and they haven’t change one thing and it has been over 4 months so either they don’t know how to or they r not that smart and they got a government job

I have not received mine yet but I got on the my SS account and I found out my SSI benefits for 2022 have been suspended wow what a slap in the face.

Linda Shope there is a chart in your SSA account that tells when they will be direct deposited or sent to you. I will try and copy it and post it here. Have to be able to get in your My Social Security Accout. I’m able. Let me see what I can do.

We mailed the COLA notices throughout the month of December to retirement, survivors, and disability beneficiaries, SSI recipients, and representative payees. You can also securely view and save the Social Security COLA notice online via the Message Center inside your my Social Security account . If you don’t have an account, create one today.
You can also call us at 1-800-772-1213 for assistance or you can call your local Social Security office. Please look for the general inquiry telephone number at the Social Security Office Locator. The number may appear under Show Additional Office Information. We hope this helps!

Why do we have to complete a form when you make a spelling error on my social security card replacement. you copied my original one with my correct name then you misspelled it by one letter on my new card. Now I have to complete an entire form to correct your error? really?

I don’t understand why personnel are not in the office currently and why it is so difficult to tell us as consumers when personnel will be in the office. Business people are back at work. Is it because there is no profit motive for governmental services? The business people are doing what they need to serve their customers and remain safe. Why isn’t SS doing the same? I tried getting answers to my questions regarding survivor benefits on the phone and the person was wholly unhelpful.

you can make an appointment. No federal office is open and if service needs to be face to face an appointment can’t be made. Not sure what part of pandemic is difficult for you to understand. As it is, all agencies are short staffed.

TIME TO GO TO WORK!!!!! Bull, on calling, you can never get through, hours on hold and no one calls back, the entire country is working, time for SS offices to work too!!!!!!!!

Don’t know what part of “the rest of the unpampered world is back at work” why is the government taking an extended vacation. Besides, coronavirus has been around for eons and nobody was trippin balls. Just because ur buddy’s Obama, Hillary, Fauci, and Gates failed at modifying the common cold/flu to becoming a mass weapon of destruction so that they didn’t have to pay out on all that social security. It’s been in the Democratic agenda for years to do away with SS, this was just one of their pathetic attempts gone wrong and so the question stands…. The good ole American people that literally run the country are back at work, why can’t the so called government get their butts back to work as well. Did Corona kill them all?

Hi Paige. I also have been having a terrible time with this. However, I spoke with a wonderful woman, she’s based in Ohio, who gave me clear directions! Did you know every conversation with SS is recorded? She instructed me to set an appointment with a supervisor to which I did for next week. It didn’t take long to get the appointment either. She also said if I’m still not getting the right help, I should go over this persons’ head. On a different note, I just received an “award letter,” from SS telling me what my widow benefits are going to be. This was never offered to me in the several phone calls I’ve made in the past 2 years. They also sent a booklet entitled: What You Need To Know When You Get Retirement or Survivor Benefits. I’ve never seen this information online with all of my studying. Which I’ve been questioning, Why wasn’t this booklet sent me to me when I became eligible for the benefits? I hope you get the right help asap. Keep on persevering!

In 2017 I signed up with SSA. Did a restricted application and have been collecting a spousal benefit since 2017. I am turning 70 in Feb 2022 and applied in Oct 2021 to transfer to my own full benefit in 2022. Immediately received a notice that my application was received and was being reviewed by a representative in the Philadelphia service center. They said, “For most people, this review takes 2 to 4 weeks.” It’s been months for an application change for someone who is already in the system. This should be a one click change. SSA has to start publishing weekly or monthly statistics on their performance. Their employees have been working in the safety of their homes for the past 2 years. productivity should have gone up, not down.
