Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: February 21, 2023
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.
By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.
I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.
Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

Hi, Maureen. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. We hope this helps.

Why is it the general public of first round got theres and was told a date. . ive heard so many fates for ssi and ssdi. Cant they say more? With stores running on low of everything and things being triple price the last 2 months. Home deliveries botched. I’m out of food. Don’t they realise we used to work and pay taxes. Don’t we deserve a actual date and time to expect this 1200. Ya people are out of jobs. But this is unreal to be the second wave no exact timeline. Now it’s end of April. Now it’s no later than early May.
Frustrating. ……

Dear greedy asses. The stimulus is for adults. Your child <16 who receive SSI will NOT get a stimulus payment.
Michele
Wow…people are just asking questions. No need to be a jerk.
KEVIN
Actually there IS reason to be a “jerk”. In most people’s eyes, the ones who have been here since day 1, listening to the same exact questions, the same exact bull shit and the same exact whining, its called honesty. Dip shit.
John P.

Nope cause you claim your son he gets nothing but you get 500.00 for claiming him on your taxes anybody who been claimed by family the one who did the claim gets 500.00 and the other get nothing even if on ssi.
