Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

You will get a S T A N D A R D response, because it is all SSA can do on the blog. You can’t call in? Welcome to the club. Now quit being babies and wait for your damn check.

I already file taxes for both 2018 and 2019 and claim my children. I already know I’m getting a stimulus payment but it is being sent to a address I don’t even live at I put in for a address change as well when I moved from their because I was told to leave not even 24 hours after moving in and getting g my taxes. So not sure what I need to do.

    Thank you Stephanie

Was wondering if my stimulus check will get deposit soon am on SSDI. I did my 2018 taxes and till this day no check. On April 24,2020.

Hi Maria, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.

I had to file one on paper because my roomate took me as a dependent and was not supposed to last year, if you get SSI and are a dependent on another’s return (as an adult) you won’t get a payment. I just started receiving it last year, and he didn’t even pay for anything of mine, I had to repay him for everything he put out for me and my service dog, and thank God I kept all the receipts when I moved. But, in order to qualify for this stimulus payment and further ones, I had to go the paper route and back it up, and had to send it to the IRS, so it will take awhile before I get mine. If I do, as they may never get to it as this is so massive. I hope IRS disallows my roomate’s return from last year, he committed tax fraud, but with all this going on, IRS may just let it go.

I get SSDI automatically deposited. I have not received a direct deposit for the stimulus yet, and am concerned about all the stories I’m hearing about others having theirs sent to wrong accounts, or banks /bill collectors garnishing their payments.

How does one go about getting information on whether their stimulus had even gone out, and what could have happened if it did but you didn’t receive it?

    • James

There is nothing that is available for you to know. As usual the government dont care about the most vulnerable. And the Social Security Office is going along with it.. They are dragging their feet and only doing anything when they have too. Those who receive and kind of social security, veterans benefits or railroad retirement cannot even use the irs tools to find out when you will or if you will get a stimulus payment. They have started issuing paper checks and those getting government benefits. Dont even have any idea when they will get anything.

I get SSI and SSDI and I don’t have a bank account. I get both of mine on a direct express debit cards. But since last July they send me a paper check for SSI( I have called them a few times to tell them and they keep saying they will put it back on my direct express but haven’t yet). I still receive my SSDI on a direct express card. I haven’t gotten my 1200.00 yet, does anyone know when I will get it. I make less than 10,000 a year and I’m not required to fill out my income taxes cause I make to little so I haven’t filed taxes for years now. Please hope someone can help me
      Thanks
