Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul
Reading Time: 1 MinuteLast Updated: February 21, 2023
Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.
By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.
I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.
Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

I get direct deposit for both my SSI and SSDI checks through the social security office but I’ve been wondering how will the IRS handling individuals who receive both SSI and SSDI that are dual eligible for these payments will we accidentally get paid twice because our income comes from two different sources
And will it take longer for us to receive stimulus check because our income comes from two different sources
Since originally they were saying that people who receive SSDI would receive their payment off of their 1099 and then they finally said the IRS was going to work the same way for people with SSI

AT EXACTLY WHAT DATE IS SSI PEOPLE WITH NO MINOR CHILDREN GOING TO RECEIVE THEIR STIMULUS CHECK FOR $1,200 EVERYDAY I READ A DIFFERENT ANSWER YOU SAY EARLY MAY BUT EARLY MAY DOESN’T GIVE A DATE!!

Hi Lana, thank you for your question. Treasury, not Social Security, will be making automatic Economic Income Payments to eligible people. Unfortunately, we do not have information about the exact schedule for these payments. Treasury anticipates these payments to go out to Social Security retirement, survivors, and disability insurance beneficiaries starting around the end of April and to Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients starting in early May. Continue to check the irs.gov/coronavirus page for updates.

I think I’m in the same situation. But I can’t find out if that’s what happened because he is my ex husband. I know he claimed me in 2016,17,18, but I didn’t live with him in 2019. I asked if he did file me in 2019, he told me no. Also said he only received $1200.00. I did what I was told to do, which was to file and unfilled. So that they would know about me. Because for the last 8 years I have taken care of his and the last 5 years his mom and dad until their passing. So I have not had a paying job. Anyhow, if anyone knows what I should do or where to go, heck anything, plz let me know. Thanks

My husband and I receive social security income but have not received the payment. We filed taxes for 2018 but not yet for 2019. We receive our monthly social security via automatic deposit.

Hi Anita, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

I have a Direct Express card as a representative payee for my grandchildren who receive ssi and survivor benefits on the Direct Express card. Is the stimulus package going to be deposited on the Direct Express card??? I already filled out the form for my dependent grandchildren I also checked the status on the irs.gov site and it said I am eligible but they need direct deposit info or I will get a paper check. The Direct Express card does not have routing number as it is only used for depositing the SSI and Survivor Benefits
audie
Mam,
Yes the stimulus will go to your direct express cards. I to am in the same boat as you and read and reread every article that was published. I 1st thought it would come with my award each month. but i was wrong. hopefully soon….
