Supplemental Security Income Recipients, Act Now – Go to IRS.gov – A Message from Social Security Commissioner Andrew Saul

Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who don’t file tax returns will start receiving their automatic Economic Impact Payments directly from the Treasury Department in early May. People receiving SSI benefits who did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes, and have qualifying children under age 17, however, should not wait for their automatic $1,200 individual payment. They should immediately go to the IRS’s webpage and visit the Non-Filers: Enter Your Information section to provide their information. SSI recipients who have dependent children and did not file 2018 or 2019 taxes need to act by Tuesday, May 5, in order to receive additional payments for their eligible children quickly.

By taking this proactive step to enter information on the IRS website about them and their qualifying children, they will also receive the $500 per dependent child payment in addition to their $1,200 individual payment. If people in this group do not provide their information to the IRS soon, their payment at this time will be $1,200 only. They would then be required to file a tax year 2020 tax return to obtain the additional $500 per eligible child.

I urge SSI recipients with qualifying children and who do not normally file taxes to take action now. Immediately go to IRS.gov so that you will receive the full amount of the Economic Impact Payments you and your family are eligible for.

Lastly, a word of caution. Be aware of scams related to the Economic Impact Payments. There is no fee required to receive these payments. Don’t be fooled.

I started receiving ssdi in 2016 and before then always has H&R do my taxes I didnt realize I still had a filing obligation due to the First time Homebuyer credit I recieved in 2008 my husband was not working much and I do need to go back and file for what he did which will give credit however with all that went on I planned on updating all this summer now that healing and some pain alleviating so I have brain to find receipts etc he stayed home to help with kids due to illness and 2 major accidents thay broke nearly all bones in my body. Since I was the one that always took in taxes I dont even think along with the EITC and taking the fees for filing etc out of taxes plus having another company do them he would have even known to put it together to file either and with something owed even with refund I didnt put it together un head either he didnt recieve any 1099’s for work he did wewould be claiming for 2018 and not sure if he worked at all in 2017 with no 1099s irs wouldnt know of income and forgetting about 2008 yax stimulus I tried to use the non-filers tool on irs website to quickly get our info in untill i could file even if needed to ammend that is when it was rejected and I learned that we indeed had a filing obligation still. I tried one site to file a ez form and was rejected since it did not prompt where to add information for the 2008 stimulus finally i used a irs free file 1040 site and after all my ignorance filtered out and finally got the site to correctly add the money owed to them and and update husband myself and 2 children and rhe address we are living at now it went through irs accepted return April 16, 2020 they did have me enter first payment info and also asked to enter info for direct deposit for stimulus payment however it does not show it when i pull ip copies. I have not been able to.use the get my payment tool for either myself or husbands info nor have I recieved any stimulus momey. My question in context of this is
    1) will they use tax info or use my Ssdi?
    2) if using tax info how long does it take them to process after it states it was accepted April 16, 2020
    3) since owed them and didn’t realize I did at first will the rejected non-filers info ets delay or mess up what i finally got in system as soon as I found out?
    4) i didnt add income on this one figured i would go back and amend at time i dint know there was issue with owing and how they used your bank information for stimulus and i just wanted to get information as fast as possible since it was taking weeks just to get what i had entered properly on efile i never used which finally accepted April 16 and i started end of March as it was. It did ask for direct deposit i think was added but payment is same info as well will that be used or would they be using my ssdi info?
    5) which since on Ssdi is that the reason or would it be time I filed for payment status not available error? Is it something i should be checking since i did.owe and cant comfirm if info for direct deposit was added they said it was but no way of confirming. My head is spinning..
Please help me clarify what happened so i can be proactive on any further steps that may be needed.

My husband and I filed in 2018 jointly. We did not owe and received a credit being applied for 2019 which we have not done yet.. When the app for bank account info ask for you to choose I owed IRS or to choose if you received a refund. Neither one apply so how do you get around that to complete the app. I actually input the credit amount as a refund of 114 (one hundred fourteen). You can’t use $, periods or decimals. So it red flagged me as info does not match what they have on file. What do we do?

    OR SEND ANOTHER CHECK

  5. Jimmy P.

The ones who are disabled ain’t going Social Security or retired benefits or even being a vet that served this country well we are the last to get anything done they know who we are they have our social security numbers direct deposit and all the information that they need but for the old and the retire we’re helpless true we will get our checks but we will get our checks last before anybody else that’s how it’s been for years

  6. Dixie S.

I get ssi on the 1 of each mo will my stimulus check be added on to my regular monthly payment

    • V.V.

Hi Dixie, thank you for your question. Social Security retirement, survivors, or disability beneficiaries and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients who do not have qualifying children under age 17 do not need to take any action with the IRS. You will automatically receive your $1,200 economic impact payment directly from the IRS. You should receive the automatic payments by direct deposit, Direct Express debit card, or by paper check, just as you would normally receive your Social Security benefits. Treasury expects automatic payments for Social Security beneficiaries no later than the end of April and automatic payments for SSI recipients no later than early May. We hope this helps.

  7. Treca C.

Will the children who receive SSI disability automatically get their stimulus checks or do I have to go online and file a claim?

    • Tysha

You have to use non filters to get that extra money and make sure you put your information and their so you can get your money also if you didn’t file taxes for 2018 and 2019 I hope this answered your question.

    • Terri

Minors who receive SSI will NOT get a stimulus check. It is for adults to stimulate the economy

    • V.V.

Hi Treca, thank you for your question. Please visit the IRS Economic Impact Payments Information Center to answer your questions about eligibility, payment amounts, what to expect, when to expect it and more. Hope this helps!

Why is ssa, ssdi.ex.last to receive stimulus.? I’ve yet to see any stimulus. Some of us retired people live in our vehicles .we don’t receive enough to pay rent. Government housing? Violence, drugs, bedbugs roaches,an rats.not our idea of retirement.some of us dissable and forced into retirement at 62. Nobody can rationalize this to us. What’s up?

    • Joseph S.

I too am disabled i was forced to quit working at 35 years old. I’m now 53. I have read so many dates on when ssdi should receive their payment I have no idea when I might see it. Is it only on weds that direct deposit a get issued?

    • RJ

All last week I had heard to be deposited this Wed 4/29.
Now per this email…might not be until the following Wed 5/1 we shall see. I also am on disability. I totally missed this great 50% off underware & 50 % off sandals. I need both. I buy expensive stuff that lasts for years. But I’m about 2 years past buying any clothes or shoes.
We shall see what this Wed. brings if anything.
